The RCBS Universal tool is advertised as accepting cases from 32acp to 45-70.
From comments on the net I gather that the 45AR has a rim that is too thick (about .083) to work in the universal fit 'jaws' of the mechanism.
…One advantage is that the AR cases are stronger in the web area and you can load them a bit hotter. I've loaded some up to near .45 Super levels with no problems…
If you choose to get rid of your AR brass, just let me know. I'm interested!...I might have to go with another method, OR, may just say the hell with it, sell the AR brass, and stick with just .45 ACP .
The auto rim brass advantage of not needing moon clips looks to be more of a PITA than its worth !!!
I have been using an old Lee hand priming tool which uses conventional shell holders for years and it works fine with .45 AR. Anything sold as being "Universal" may well not be.
I use an older RCBS rock crusher press...and it works fine, has for many years. It has NO provision for primer installation. When , and if, I receive a reply from RCBS, I will ask them if there is some type of attachment or option that I could use on my press. Presently I have not been able to install AR primers, or any other caliber primers on my press. I have used the hand held primer tool for tens of thousands of rounds without issue... this is a first .

If you think priming Auto Rim brass is a pain wait until you're plucking ACP brass from clips or chambers.
I have specific loading / unloading tool for the moon clips, so it's not all that bad. Just trying to eliminate that added step to shooting ACP in my revolvers.
Beware: I bought two new Universals several years ago. Neither would fully seat a primer with 100% reliability. Every primer had to be checked (I do this regardless of the primer seater used) and about 5% or more were not fully seated. Also, the effort required to seat was more than what was normally required.
The RCBS handpriming tool that required shellholders was a much better one. I returned both Universals, but maybe I just bought a couple of bad ones.
I have used these universals for many years, never had any issues. Just trying to figure out why I can not use it for auto rim brass .
Glad to hear this because I just plunked down the bucks for the one that uses shell holders.![]()
My goodness all this typing and replies having nothing to do with original question?

My RCBS Partner Press has a built in arm to set primers and with the correct shell holder primes everything I reload from .32 ACO to .30-06 including .45 autorim.
I can find little value in hand primers other than strengthening your hands! Tried several and gave them all away. I found that using my old Rockchucker press with a priming tube installed is the answer for me. It resizes, deprimes, and primes all in one hand stroke. Anyone with an old single stage RCBS press should try the priming attachment.
. . . and yes it can handle 50-70.
My .45 ACP case removal method is to use the inside corner of a steel GI ammo can. Loading a Moon clip is easy enough for me by just using my thumbs. But water pump pliers would also work fine. Water pump pliers are one of my most useful tools for a variety of purposes.there are many home made solutions to removing fired casings from moon clips and all work with varying degrees of success.
I shot USPSA Revolver with my JM 625 with many moon clips and found the""California Competition Works Super Demooner Moon Clip Unloading Tool for 6 or 8 Shot Full Moon Clips" takes only 3-4 seconds to unload fired casings.

PS,
to load clips I simply use a pair of pliers to snap them in...about 10 seconds...
