.45 C.Q.B. vs. 9 RECON - Did I screw up?

This was on a gun show table earlier today, right next to a P.C. 9 RECON. They were in the same condition, each with the P.C. case, papers and two magazines. Both guns were marked <STRIKE>$800</STRIKE> $700. The C.Q.B. felt better in my hand and I just liked it better, so I made a cash offer and the seller accepted. Anything I should know about this gun? I haven't paid much attention to the newer S&W semi-autos until recently and I'm wondering if I made the right choice? What are the two guns actually worth? Any idea of production quantities? I may be able to contact the seller about the RECON if it was a deal I shouldn't have refused and it is only a 3 hour round trip drive to the show.

You got one of the best pistols S&W ever produced IMHO. I had both the alloy version you have and i foolishly traded an all stainless CQB a few years ago. Enjoy it.

They're both sought after by fans of Performance Center pistols. I'm not absolutely sure, but I think there were a few more CQB's made than Recon 9's.

I'm looking for a CQB also, but I don't have any money right now (I have a wedding to pay for soon).

The recon types are not common, if it was a reasonable price I would have bought it. Be patient when assembling the Briley bushing on the barrel, it will go on easily when lined up right. I hold my mouth a certain way when I do this.

I'd had to go with the nine myself, but to each his own. I do seem to see more C.Q.B.s' out there, but then again there were several versions of them.

Both are great guns. I agree they are among the best that S&W has produced.

I think you bought the better gun. I have 2 CQBs, a stainless and an alloy. I like them sooo much I sold my Colt Commander. The stainless CQB is my bump in the night gun.

I have wanted a Recon 9 for a while now. I already have a Recon 40.

The CQB is also great!

On my desert trips, many of the guys shoot 1911's. However, if they ever got to shoot the CQB, I think they would have second thoughts about the 1911. The 1911's have better triggers and fit the hand nice, but the CQB doubles as a carry/home defense weapon due to it being TDA.

the CQB's have dried up on the net, but they can be found if you look and ask.

the recon 9's, now that is a rarer animal. very hard to find. I would suggest buying that one too, if the price is decent.

Grinder is going to be your contact for production numbers.

I think I am correct on this but Grinder will correct if I am wrong, the CQB's did not come in a aluminum case. mine is #61 (same as your #46) and it came in a stickered to the gun black plastic case.

has your piece been shot? looks very clean!

I have a Recon 9 and like it alot but would still like a CQB45 like yours more. The Recon is the only 9mm I have. The other Smith autos that I own are 4566tsw and a Shorty 45.

I like both 9mm and 45ACP. If I was in your shoes I would have got the .45 CQB. I have a soft spot for .45 S&W's and have wanted a CQB for some time. Don't get me wrong, the Recons are nice pistols. I just like the CQB becuase it is full sized and is so darn light.

Either one is a great choice. I guess it all depends on your preference between and 9 and 45.

Mr CQB is correct on the case.
All CQB's of all flavors had the black plastic cases originally.
there were 200 produced of the 4563 two tone you bought
I have seen #204 9mm Recon, but they are rarely seen and I'm still looking for a nice all original specimen
Either is a great deal and I would have bought both also
