After many years without one, I recently acquired a 4" M25-5. I searched this forum and couldn't find an answer - so here is the question. Will Schofield brass work in the 25-5? My thought was that with the wimpy loads I will be using there would be less of an issue with powder position in the shorter case. Any thoughts/experience would be appreciated.

I just tried the Schofield round in a 25-5 - it fits and ejects fine. The rim dimension is slightly different than 45 Colt's, so I wasn't sure until I tried. I had ejection issues with using 45 Schofield brass in another 45C revolver.

If you are concerned about the powder position and ignition issues with light loads, look into Trail Boss powder. It's bulky and ignites well. I shoot Cowboy matches with 5 grains of TB in 45 Colt, with 200gr. bullets.

Thanks to all who replied. I had read the post about the 45 CB brass, but thought it might be a bit extreme........ I have some Trail Boss, but havent used it yet. Seems like a good time to try.

Modern .45 Schofield brass works fine. From what I've read , the original S&W brass had bigger rims than .45 Colt cases and ya couldn't use them in a Colt SAA. Well , ya could , but the rims would hit and ya now had a 3-shooter.

Most .45 Schofield brass currently produced has the rim diameter that is identical to the .45 Colt, however some brass does has the larger rim similar to the original loadings.
