What is necessary to convert the 4506 and 1006 to D.A.O.?

Who does this sort of work?

Thank you.

The factory is your best bet. If you no longer want a safety, they can replace it with a flat Firing Pin Retainer.

There have been several 4586s in a local shop, extremely reasonable priced, for quite some time. Perhaps there are some hitting the market?

They are mid-sized barrel length, of course, compared to the 4506, but that isn't much of a difference. The one I have is very smooth and an exceptional shooter.

In fact, I was shooting it at the range a few years ago, having a really good day, with a pair of Hogue exotic wood grips on it that made it look kind of dressy and a guy beside me with a new Les Baer that he was having trouble with said he wished he had bought one of those S&W Performance Center target guns like I had.

There was a reason why S&W only made 151 of the 1046's and no 4546's, a 5" barrel DAO does not make a lot of sense. Now on the mid frame it makes for a nice slick package, as mentioned there are some reasonably priced 4586's on the market right now, I would look for one of those or a 1086 to acquire. Also s&W is running down their inventory of 3rd gen parts and I doubt that they have the conversion parts left in stock but you never know.

The factory made around 400 of the model 4546, in three seperate runs. Here is a nice one below. The 1046 and 4546 (set up for 45 Super), are just about the perfect woods pistols.

The conversion parts used are from the recent 4586TSW, and should be in plentiful supply.
