I am looking for a 4506 that was a custom race gun with a compensator, built by Ed Brown of Perry, Missouri
Serial number TDC 6815
Like I said it a long shot, but I would like to find this gun. It may have went to Oklahoma into it Ray Brazille's of Tulsa, collection.
Thank you for your time

Seems like a VERY specific BOLO request. I'm intrigued.

Is there a back story that you would be able to share?

Most likely not the same one, but Collectors Firearms had one as described, (probably not the same serial number,) 3-5 yrs ago. I just tried pulling it up but lost patience. Usually it's easy to see their sold offerings.

OK Jim remember you asked for it so here you go,
I shot this particular Smith & Wesson model 4506 in the Chevy Trucks Sportsman's Team Challenge from Markham Park Target Range in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
I believe that it was 1991 it's been awhile…….
The 4506 belong to a friend of mine, who was known as one of the top authorities on the Smith & Wesson Model, 629 44 magnum
Wayne Hazelrigg who has unfortunately passed on.
Wayne had Eddie Brown build this particular 4506 into a compensated Race gun,
And when he made the offer for me to be able to shoot it in competition at the Chevrolet sports team challenge, I eagerly excepted it.
He said to be sure and show it to one of our mutual friends that was a Smith and Wesson Rep
And then leave the gun with him after the competition.
I was on the practice range,
When the Smith & Wesson Rep came and asked me to bring that gun and my shooting gear to another side range, and that was when I was introduced to machine gun Tommy Campbell and Smith & Wesson's historian Roy Jinks
I had met Mr. Jinks on several other occasions, at PASA shooting complex, in Barry, Illinois during masters international handgun championships
I was asked to do an exhibition shoot for them with this gun, and then knowing what I was there for so I laid it all out to the best of my ability!!!
It turned out to be one of the highlights of my shooting sports career!
I have wondered what happened to that gun and last night I was going through some of Wayne's personal papers where he talks about the history of the 629 and ran a crossed some paperwork that leads me to believe that this 4506 wound up in the hands of Ray Brazille's from Oklahoma he has since passed on.
I am hoping that someone out there might know where it is or have it in their possession. It's basically just sentimental history to me.

And I'm glad I asked and appreciate your response. Thanks for the informative explanation. It makes sense that you'd like to find this particular 4506.

Just some random questions for you cause I like this stuff. Did that 4506 have factory controls, or extended ? When you shot it did it have straight or curved grips? What sights did it have?

A correction on the date it was 1991, so it's been over 31 years
And as far as the details on the gun, I remember they were adjustable sights , but which ones I don't remember
It did have a straight grip, and I believe the safety switches have been modified, but they actually didn't work out too bad mainly to because the sportsman team challenge you were not drawing them out of the holster you were picking them up off of the table.
Thank you all for PM's and your efforts

Found this sold one goofing around today.

It's not the one you are interested in but confirms they do show up. I would think if Ed Brown had built this one he would have put his extended controls on. It does have a Barsto barrel though.

Jim I agree however, I do believe there was some difference in the controls but in 1991 they were probably were hand made. I doubt that they were popular enough to put them in production at that time, but then again I may be wrong.
We are looking through all of the paperwork that we have in our possession, trying to find out more about this gun
I know Ed is retired now, but he's only about 35 miles from me and I will probably try to get a hold of him and see if he has any memory of it.

I have a Model 4506 that I purchased from another Forum Member in the distant past. It was a competition pistol with magna ported. I never fired it is and its somewhere in my safe. Do you have the serial # of the one you are looking for ?

Jimmy,
I may be able to find the serial number, However it is a full racegun with a compensator threaded to the end of the barrel it's very distinguishable.
It was not magna ported.
thank you,
Tom

I finally had a chance to sit down and go through Wayne's records that I have and this is what I found, the Smith and Wesson 4506 Comp gun that I am looking for the serial number is "TDC6815" Like I said in one of the earlier post I believe it went to Ray Brazille of Tulsa Oklahoma Back in the mid 90s
Thank you all for your efforts

I fixed this one for a client sometime ago. It does not have the same serial #, and I don't know if it was built by Ed Brown.

Seems to be German import, has some marking from a city and DE on a laser marking. Was filthy and had a tiny hole in the comp that BMCM (Bill) welded...

I had to replace the rear sight because it was dinged. We put a Dawson front sight on it...

John Wick should carry this one...

guzzitaco, That's very close but to my knowledge Ed Brown only built the one and it had an enlarged mag well and if memory serves me correctly it had a single port instead of dual port on the comp but you made my heart stop for just a minute and I thank you very much for your effort.
