I may be making a deal with a friend for his old 4567. It was his duty gun for a while back in the early 90s and as such has some blue wear to the slide and the lamps are virtually dead. I know Trijicon will relamp the sights but as I'd like to bring it back to how it looked I'm wondering who to send off the slide to.

All of this is providing I can swing getting it. For me it's too big/heavy to be a carry gun but I definitely intend to shoot it and keep it handy around the house. Thanks

Can S&W still reblue a slide? My 4567 is one of my favorites in my collection. The factory two tone is a really unique look.

I think the factory will reblue though I'm sure the backlog is pretty substantial. I believe today is the first day service is fully staffed after summer vacations.

I sent an email to S&W about a detail strip, clean and refinish. Curious to see what the shop says. Haven't bought it yet but only because we're trying to arrange a meet up at his ffl-here in Colorado private sales require transfer to go through an ffl with the background check, yay.

S & W Fan:

You may want to consider calling the S & W Factory. If I recall correctly, in the recent past I have seen postings here that complain of protracted wait times or no return e-mails.

Hopefully, you will get an opportunity to speak with a rep who is knowledgeable. In my past dealings with the factory call-takers, I have gotten persons who seem to read from a prepared script. You don't get an opportunity to speak with a tech on the work floor. To be fair, the work performed by the Mother Ship has been exemplary.

Currently, I'm waiting on a re-blue of my Model 13-2. Projected wait time that I was quoted for the re-blue: 10 months.

I'll see the 4567 for myself on Saturday. Depending on how it looks I may just leave it as is after a good cleaning. The advantage of it belonging to a friend is that I'll get to shoot it first too.

Thanks just plain joe, I'll give a call in a day or two to be better informed.

BTW here's a quickie pic my friend sent me:

+1 for calling. I've always had better results from calling S&W than emailing.

Sadly, S&W's bluing on their semi-auto pistols of this era was poor and not particularly durable. I'm not sure how well their current, EPA friendly bluing will hold up as they warn to not use any solvents containing ammonia or ammoniated compounds. If you decide to have the slide re-blued, you might consider a company other than S&W.
