Can anyone tell me how the baseplate on a 2nd generation S&W magazine (459, 559, etc) is removed?

I can push in the pin, but the floorplate will not budge.

Thanks

Here is a youtube video on disassembly of a S&W 5906 magazine which is similar.
(Unless someone permanently glued your 459 magazine base to convert a factory 14/15rd magazine to a california compliant 10rd capacity magazine).

The 5906 mag is different. The metal baseplate will not slide off like the plastic one. No this is not a 10 rd mag. This is a factory S&W 14 round magazine.

Any 459/59/659 owners have any ideas?

The mags components are similar in theory.
I am also the original owner of a S&W 559, besides my 5906, 3906, 3913, 3914, and 469's.

That is a very nice 559. I looks just like my 459 from 1982 (adj sight, non-ambi decocker). Does the baseplate slide off easily on your 559 magazine?

Thanks 586

Slide off? YES. Easily?, NO.

I have a thin bladed flat tip that I slowly and carefully use to slide between the base and the back of the mag body to use as a lever to get the base started.

Well I finally got it. I think the difficulty is due to the two circular indents just above the bottom of the magazine that pinch the floorplate. BTW after I got it loosened, I used retaining ring pliers to slide it forward.

I know this is old, but I just cleaned mine. Push the little nipple to one side of the hole of the base plate. Grab base plate with nice wide pliers and just pull.

One base plate didn't want to go back in, I took a file and rounded the back edges of the base plate and in she went.

p.s. Stuck spring into my finger and was bleeding every where. But that is just how things go for me.
