Picked this up this week. I had my eye out for one for awhile and had almost given up and then this popped up on a Colt forum. The gentleman was selling this and a similarly chopped 1917 Colt as a package deal but got enough interest in separating them that he did...Good for me and the other guy!

The barrel is just a hair over 2", if the resolution allows, you can look really closely at the frame location where the crane closes you can see the dimple that allows for clearance of the crane ball detent, since the ejector rod detent is now gone. It had the stock walnut grips which were nicely aged, but I decided to go with these Altamonts. Needed a little bit of fitting, but I'm pretty happy with them.

I just removed the lanyard swivel tonight- turns out a tiny Allen wrench works in a pinch. I think it was a Brazilian, based on that lanyard, and the pitting under the grips.

I picked up a Tyler T grip but it wasn't as comfortable as these Magnas on their own.

I like it. Reminds me of the cool little cut down and reblued 3 1/2" 1917 I just sold in Tulsa in a moment of weakness in an attempt to finance my other purchases. If the guy who I tried to talk out of buying it is reading this...BRING ME MY DANG GUN BACK!

Now that looks like it means business!

Just finished putting one that went thru WW I together with a 4" shrouded barrel.

If your chopped 1917 was a commercial model, I may know the guy that bought it. If you're serious, PM me and I'll pass it on.
ETA:
BTW, nice gun the OP has.

My first thoughts were the same about the front sight, but in person the proportions look right. Before it showed up, I had visions of filing it down a bit but before I mess with anything I'm going to see how it shoots.

It reminds me of an M&P with a 2" barrel, but it's SOO much bigger than that. I was thinking it would make a cool pocket gun- I am going to need MUCH bigger pockets, if that is going to happen!

I will try to get a video of the first range day with it- see if it's the fire-breather I think it will be.

Chopped 1917

deyo.....It looks better in your pics than the pics on the Colt Forum and a lot larger than it's brother the 2 1/2" Colt. I'm sure it will shoot as good as mine. Let me know....Lou

As stated in my original thread, the "package deal" was separated. As you can tell from his post, Buffalo got the brother. Feel free to post photos, Lou. I have a feeling those who have found interest in this little Smith will LOVE the aesthetics of that Colt.

Great looking revolver. Now for the range report? Are you going to carry it?

I ran across a Colt 1917 years ago that was about the same length. Maybe just a tad more barrel. It is an interesting piece with some really crude "metal work" but a nice blue job. It was so funky I had to buy it. Still have it but have never shot it. May fix that in the near future.

I bet that is a hand cannon for sure. Someone staring down that big hole in the barrel and the bullets in the cylinder should be enough to intimidate anyone. BG...oh that is going to hurt real bad. LOL
