A friend is looking to get a S&W 460 and is thinking of taking it hunting.
I assume you can mount a scope on it, and can anyone here recommend a good pistol scope under $300?
If this works out good for him, I might go ahead and get an X frame too. :D

Don't know what other gear he has, but I mounted a Weigand rail on my 460 and interchange my Eotech reflex sight from my M&P15T AR. Works great for deer hunting. A word of advice - do not EVER fire a 460 w/o hearing protection...not one single shot, even while hunting! You could ask me why, but I probably wouldn't hear you...

While its possible - I personally don't think you'll find a scope under $300 to stand up to the repeated pounding. For awhile, perhaps, but not likely long term - IMO!
I use the 2-7x Burris with the reticle lock on mine.

I still use the irons on mine, but I have heard good reports about the
Bushnell® Elite® 3200 2 - 6x32 mm Handgun Scope, enough that when and if I ever do scope mine it will be the one I try first. Lifetime, no questions asked warranty. Even Cabela's has 'em for under $300.

Thanks guys, I'll relay this on to him :)
I'll also tell him about the hearing protection, he's notorious for not using protection.
In fact, he kinda ribs me because I refuse to shoot without ear plugs or muffs, but then, my ears don't ring all the time either.

Hi owner/operator here. :)

Yeah... Firing my AK-74 without protection will only pop my ears. :D

But I don't dare fire the .460 without the muffs. It's a wild audio ride for 20 rounds a box, trust me. He'll need it for this monster. :)

You might get away with it with a .44 mag but you'll wish you had hearing protection with the .460 :) lol

Wear hearing protection now or you will be wearing hearing aids later.

My hearing loss was do to being on the flight line but I can hardly hear people talking to me even with my hearing aids. You've got to take care of yourself.

I hear that (no pun intended). I make sure I at least have some plugs in. I only fired the 74 twice without hearing protection as I've heard of a great many loosing their hearing from long term small arms operation without hearing protection.

A friend of mine lost his hearing in one ear in Nam to firing an M72 LAW. That had to suck.

I mounted a Bushnell Trophy Hunter handgun scope on a Wiegand mount on my 460. No problems with anything yet.

x frame scope

I just mounted a burris fastfire II on my 500 S&W . I e-mailed burris and they told me in writing that they engineer all their scopes to handle the recoil of the 500, and if I am not satisfied with this scope they will find me something I am satisfied with.
I have filed the response away just in case I'm not completely satisfied.
I don't think you can ask for much more than that.

Hi, Steve here. Just recently i mounted a 2X7 Burris on mine, havent shot it yet. I believe the scope price was around 300 . I do have 11 other Burris scopes mounted on rifles. This is my first Burris on a hand gun.
