I was wondering if anyone here has tested or used the big long Smith&Wesson 460XVr 12" for long distance. I'm looking at one of those big fancy 12" Preformance Center guns with the bipod and scope mounted on the top and bottom picatini's

I am thinking of buying one and would like any info on its capabilities at 250yards and further. I really like the look better than a lot of the other speciallized handguns.

I know it will kill game that far, but I am more interested in the accuracy capabilities...for example..has anyone ever shot groups or milk jugs with it at 3,4,or 500+yards??

Thanks guys!

I don't know about the .460 @ long range but from what I've read, they can do 1.5" groups at 100 with ammo they like. I'd guess someone here has experience at longer ranges. Don

Thanks Don... 100 yard group info is a good start.

I have been thinking of buying one but I seem to notice that they are only claiming 22-2300fps from a 200grain bullet. Seems to me that it would be a lot faster than this considering how big the cartridge is and how long the barrels are on these things..usually from 8 3/8 - 12 inches or even 14".

I can get just over 2000fps from my Freedom Arms 454casull and that is with a 260gr bullet and only a 7 1/2" barrel.

I was looking to get a flat(ter) shooting handgun for long range and the Contenders and XP100 styles just don't impress me.

I am hoping someone has the 460 and loves it and can show/tell me what they have been able to do with theirs... sure don't think that and increase of 200 fps would be enough to justify the gain over a nice FA holster gun compared to a +6Lb, sling carried beast:D
