5 guys

I doubt that Jeff Cooper would eat fast food often. He was a gourmet and his dad was head of a food society in, I think, San Francisco. He was also pretty wine knowledgeable.

How was that In n Out and how long ago did you eat there?

No one mentioned Carl' s Jr. I think they and Hardee's are connected? They have some great T V ads, which don't run in my area. They've used Hannah Ferguson and Nina Agdal as models, I think. Not that hot models in ads means the burgers are really good. But it makes the ads more tolerable.

Hannah recently married some athlete named Jeter. Don't recall his first name or his sport. I hope that she'll still model.

I have eaten at Prescott In-Out a few times.
It's a good quick burger and a crowded place at lunch.
They have counter seating against the windows and that's where I talked to the ex-mayor.
I asked him if he knew Jeff Cooper.
He said yes, he knew Jeff and Mrs. Cooper. He sold Jeff some communications- internet services up at Gunsite.
He didn't say Jeff ever ate there.

My ONLY experience with Hardee's was memorable and turned me off on them forever, and then some. It happened at a Hardees's near the Birmingham AL airport about 7 years ago. The service was unbearably slow and whatever burger I finally got was cold and greasy by the time I got it. Ditto the fries. After one bite, I threw it all away. I would have taken it back to the counter, but I figured it would be a waste of time in that place. There was an unmistakable in-your-face hostility of the counter people toward the customers. I wouldn't have been surprised to find that one of the staff spit in my burger.

"5 Guys, Smashburger. Big greasy burgers that are expensive and not so great fries." I could add others to the list. The local Smashburger didn't last very long before it shut down maybe three years ago. Good riddance - one visit was enough for anyone. Maybe not the most disappointing burger joint of my life, but well up in the rankings.

I spent 9 1/2 years exiled from Texas to NE Ohio. Every time I landed at Intercontinental, I'd make a bee-line to the nearest Whataburger (then to the local grocery for some Blue Bell, but that's another story). They were one of the things I missed about being away from home.

Does anyone from Greater Houston remember Charlie's Hamburgers? I used to love them back when I was a kid. Hated to see them close down. Prince's isn't bad either.

Longhorn ... if you're talking about Charlies on the west side of town off Hwy 6, I remember it well. Used to go there all the time in the 80's - 90's. Haven't lived on that side of town in a long while, so if that's the place I'm sorry to hear it closed down as well. Seems like I remember there were more than one in Houston, but that's been a while.

All true Texans pronounce it "Waterburger."

Can you even get hamburgers in Uruguay? Do they have a lot of places there were you can get good beef, like in Brazil and Argentina?
Hi Sir, yes, fortunately you can! :D
But fast food chains only McDonalds, subway and Burger King. There is no Wendys or KFC or much else.
No Starbucks either.

We are just 3 million people... Too small of a market.

You can find amazing beef though and very good gastronomy overall. :)

I'd eat Soylent Green before I ate Hardee's again.

They were vile the first time I went to one in Fulton, Missouri in 1976. They were vile the last time around 2001 on the Indiana or Ohio Turnpike. The last time I knew better, but I was stuck on a Greyhound Bus and had the choice of Hardee's or nothing to eat for a good twelve hours. I made the wrong choice.

Multi quote isn't working, but I'm gonna have to retract my earlier statement with regards to Hardee's. I had them for the first time in a while since I was travelling and there are none local to me on my day-to-day adventures. It was awful. The burger was overcooked and very dry and the curly fries were under-cooked and chewy. Yuck!
