5 guys

One thing I can not stand is a burger from under the heat lamp! Can't remember last time at a McDonalds. Here in the great north we still have a strong chain of A&W's. Cooked for you when you order. Down south(and west) it is In 'n Out

...unless you're working second shift, aren't given time for breaks and dinner, have no place to refrigerate food and are making the proposed minimum wage.

You may want to come home and cook dinner at 2-3:00am after working 2-3 hours of illegal unpaid overtime, but you can count me out.

I ate years of cold lunches where the only place to sit was on the lunch box. Still feel a PBJ is better than McD's.

The hours a place is open matter.

I used to work an all night security job in a parking lot at a shopping strip mall. A Jack in the Box was nearby and open late. I often got food there, because it was open. Pretty fair fast food, on the whole.

One morning about three AM , I was sitting in my car eating when a coyote trotted past, headed for that Jack in the Box.
I wondered if they were feeding him or he was accessing their trash.

This was on the border between Dallas and University Park, a very affluent neighborhood. Residents would probably be astounded to know that coyotes live there.

Best burgers in my smallish college town IMHO.

If you add FRESH jalapenos to your burger it'll change everything. :D

Yes, the jalapenos effectively hide the taste of grease. I went once (dining choices are thin on ground here) and was disappointed. Haven't been back. We have one local restaurant and bar that serves a good burger. I hit them maybe once a month. Otherwise, it's home cooking (mine).

Tell me about it.

Three jobs ago (the ONLY job I got offered during the depths of the recession), I was SUPPOSED to be working 3:00pm to 11:00am. Between the flawed workflow process and the raving lunatic who was the team lead, I frequently didn't get home until 2:00am or later (all overtime UNPAID, of course). We got no time for dinner, had no place to store food, and were constantly on the move.

That gave me EXACTLY three choices for dinner that didn't involve cooking at 3:00am: an expensive [for me at the time] restaurant, a VERY expensive restaurant, and White Castle.

Guess which one I chose...

We used to eat at JITB at least once a week. 5 or so years ago, something happened to their burgers, not as good as they had been, whether it was the meat or something else I don't know. Also their prices took somewhat of a jump. Anyway, we quit eating there, haven't been to one for several years. Two of the nearby JITBs have shut down over the past year or so - maybe I wasn't the only lost customer. Or maybe there is more competition in Burgerland. I do know for sure that Chick-Fil-A has taken a pretty good bite of the fast food market share from the burger chains locally.

I haven't eaten at Jack in the Box in a good forty years. The last time was as a kid in Chicago. They don't have them in this part of Ohio (if they have them in Ohio at all). It was ok, but nothing special. I wouldn't rate it as high as Wendy's or Rally's.

There's a Chick-Fil-A across the street from where I used to work in town here. It's actually in walking distance from the house. I've eaten there a couple of times. I don't dislike it, but don't like it enough to go either. Given the choice between them and Hardee's, it'd be Chick-Fil-A EVERY time. I'd rather eat cold MREs than Hardee's.

I went to 5-guys once. I found it Ok but not worth another trip. For fast food places I like the Hardee's 1/2 lb thickburger. I also like Whataburger. There are several local places that I prefer to any of the fast food places, One local place has a burger that has Jalapenos and chili on it. This is my favorite.

What I like to do is grill around 10lbs of burgers and wrap most of them in plastic wrap and put them in zip-lock bags and freeze them. When I want a burger, I take one out of the freezer and microwave it to thaw it out and it tastes like it just came off of the grill.

I'd eat Soylent Green before I ate Hardee's again.

They were vile the first time I went to one in Fulton, Missouri in 1976. They were vile the last time around 2001 on the Indiana or Ohio Turnpike. The last time I knew better, but I was stuck on a Greyhound Bus and had the choice of Hardee's or nothing to eat for a good twelve hours. I made the wrong choice.

I'm gonna disagree with you. Either the Frisco or Mushroom and Swiss burgers are up there for me for drive-through fast food burgers. I'll take them over anything at McD's.

We only have one A&W left,it's in the northern part of the state, I really miss those car hop's

Only been in one In and Out.
I was standing on the corner in Prescott , AZ.
Actually more like in the Walmart parking lot.
That's where I talked to the ex- mayor who had known Jeff Cooper.
In NM, we have local chain Blake's.

I doubt that Jeff Cooper would eat fast food often. He was a gourmet and his dad was head of a food society in, I think, San Francisco. He was also pretty wine knowledgeable.

How was that In n Out and how long ago did you eat there?

No one mentioned Carl' s Jr. I think they and Hardee's are connected? They have some great T V ads, which don't run in my area. They've used Hannah Ferguson and Nina Agdal as models, I think. Not that hot models in ads means the burgers are really good. But it makes the ads more tolerable.

Hannah recently married some athlete named Jeter. Don't recall his first name or his sport. I hope that she'll still model.

Owned by the same investment group. Carl's is west of the Mississippi and Hardee's is east. AFAIK, the menu is pretty much the same and use the same suppliers. Hardee's doesn't do the commercials though, so us East Coasters have to go to YouTube to check those out lol

Never seen lasagna in a bun????

Stop by my house next time yer in the neighborhood:eek::rolleyes::D..

Once I saw Emeril make a Chop Suey sandwich.
He said it was a local fav up where he's from, Mass I think.
I'm still not sure he wasn't putting one over on us!
What about it East Coasters?

Maybe 20 years ago or so, in Tokyo, I was having a busy workday. Lunchtime, so I just rushed out and grabbed the first thing I came across, a prepared, cellophane-wrapped sandwich from a nearby delicatessen. Rushed back to my office and, pounding away on my computer with a phone stuck in my ear took a big 'ol bite.

Yuck!!

It was a cold spaghetti and meatball sandwich on white.

Awful.
