I recently purchased this 5 inch 27-2, in VERY good condition, and upon receipt, found that the cylinder stop wasn't locking the cylinder in place when the gun wasn't cocked. I won't go into the details, just that it had to go back to S&W for a new cylinder stop. I had a white outline complete sight replacement kit, one of the older types proper for the age of the gun, that I sent along to be factory installed. I have the tools to do it myself, but I wanted this one factory done. I also had them install a red insert in the front sight. They did a great job on all the work. I spoke with the factory rep, and told him that due to the condition of this revolver, it had to have came from the factory with the problem. His reply; maybe so, but S&W will not repair any gun made before 1990, even if it is new in the box, as a warranty repair. FYI.

27-2

That looks fantastic. The grips have very nice grain, the bluing looks awesome and I really like the red ramp insert. I find that I have an easier time seeing and focusing on the red insert than a black front sight, especially when shooting black paper targets. Great looking gun!

That is a really nice revolver. Your pictures are excellent and very clear. That has to break the record for most pictures of a single gun in one post, though. I enjoyed every one.

That's a beautiful revolver, OP. I've got its twin, minus the RR/WO.
To my eye, there's no more lovely revolver than a 3 1/2" or 5" model 27.
BTW, really great pics!

Thanks for the detailed photo assortment showing every angle of this beautiful example of Smith & Wesson's finest. The stocks are very nice and the wood to metal fit is exceptional. Adding the RR and WO not only makes the gun easier to shoot, but they just look so cool too! Bob

Pristene Example

Very nice condition showing very little if any use, your photos are outstanding also. I'll agree with SaxonPig, please, at least one more photo of the complete top line would complete the gallery. Congratulations!

quick question, after shooting alot of rounds out of it with that problem did the trigger pull get heavier?

Answer: I haven't fired the gun. The cylinder stop didn't engage the cylinder notch enough to lock it in place. It would easily rotate counter clockwise unless it was cocked. Apparently, when it was assembled, whoever installed the notch milled it down too much, resulting in a shallow fit.

Sweet Model 27.
I shot my six inch 27-2 alongside my 6 inch pre war M&P two days ago.
While N frames are a bit of a cannon to carry ....Man o Man they handle 38 special soooo nice.

the reason why I asked is because i've got a beat to hell Model 17 K22 from the 1950's that used to do that but the gunsmith in question adjusted that part on the bottom of the frame to fix that, that part that locks the cylinder in place when it fires

but when I use dirty ammo within 6 shots the gun is gunked up, it'll still fire but the trigger pull is noticeable heavier than normal

then after wiping the back of the cylinder down it'll function just fine with cleaner high quality high velocity rounds, I just thought it may have been that part on yours that you said is broken causing it or maybe the back of the cylinder is worn down, what I mean is those pegs that are suppose to be catched by that part to move the cylinder have been worn down over the years and seem kinda smooth.

although it might be something simpler like I need to get a new 22 LR bore brush to clean the cylinders, it is looking kinda perished and it may not be tight enough to properly scrub them.

WOW!! That's just great! That gun looks like the epitome of
S&W handguns. REALY SWEET !! I sure don't mind a lot of pics
when two factors come into play. Great subject material and great
workmanship. Sure beats watching the news; keep 'em coming!

Thanks for the comment! I think that S&W revolvers are as much art as weapon. Look at the ones that doc puts in his albums. If they aren't art, what is! Also, with his, a bit of history goes along with it.
