5 most dangerous things you can hear in the Army

Most useful advise I ever received in the Army came one day when I , along with probably everyone else, realized that the "plan" we had been given had absolutely no relevance to the situating we were actually facing. As a naïve Private I asked, "What do we do now Sargent?" The Sargent simply said "We do what soldiers always do Private, we adapt or die."

My kids will tell you that Adapt or Die is one of our family mottos. The other is Where there is a whip, there is a way.

I knew I was succeeding in basic when, six weeks in, one of my drill sergeants couldn't remember my name.

My oldest was in Basic Training at Ft. Benning in the Summer of 1998. My F-I-L is a Retired CSM and called the Head Drill Instructor of my son's training company to ask if he was going to graduate. When told my son's name, the first thing out of the DI's mouth was, "Never heard of him! That's a really good thing!" Then he ask an assistant and got a resounding "Yes!" Made me feel good and that I did at least one thing right raising him!
