50 yard accuracy with 158 SWC bullets

50 yd shots…do it all the time out here…my 7.0 grs BE-86 357 Magnum load using generic 158 gr cast SWC’s (12 bhn) bounces around empty gallon plastic water jugs with regularity. 1,125 fps avg from Ruger 4 5/8 inch Blackhawk…statistically, equivalent to 7.0 grs Unique (my old load with old data, don’t use it…hot loads using Unique will erode that forcing cone rapidly…1K rounds).

I'm wondering that in the past 6 months if the OP has come up with a bullet/ powder combination that gave him the accuracy he needs.

People tend to relate accuracy with a revolver to bullet design / powder etc . Yet there is the factors of cylinder throats being too small and barrel choke , tight spot where the barrel threads onto the frame . These factors affect accuracy more than most realize . Do you have to pay $4K for a revolver with correct dimensions internally , NO ! Last year I purchased one of the new Colt Pythons and none of the above factors were evident . It was as it should be , cylinder throats sized correctly and NO choke where the barrel threaded onto the frame . Most of my S&W revolvers have had one or both of the mentioned problem areas . I opened up the cylinder throats to the proper size , some required " fire lapping " the barrel . The end result was a substantial improvement in accuracy / no more leading the barrel from cast bullets . This has been my experience , yours may be different . Regards , Paul
