What would be a decent price for a 4 inch blue 547 that is like new, hasn't been shot other than factory, slight turn line with original blue cardboard box, papers and cleaning rod with brush, no screwdriver. be worth? Found one at LGS and I'm not sure how bad I want this gun.

They sell for a large premium because of the unique design of the ejector, interesting history, and relatively low production number.

ANIB in the condition you describe, it's easily a $1,000 gun. Likely more. If you don't buy it I can almost guarantee you'll get PM's from members wanting to know where it is.

There we two 547s walking the isles at the MVACA show this past weekend in Kansas City. One new in the box 3 inch and a slightly used 4 inch in the box. Both were asking $1400. Do know the 3 inch did sell to a friend of mine for less than the asking price.

$1,459.69.

I had a 4" that was stolen, I could shoot that gun better double action than any gun I've owned before or since.

I bought a 3" one to replace the stolen one, it did nothing for me.

About 18 months ago I bough a very decent 3'' for under $900 with a &% sales tax as part of that price.

Gun was lightly shot, could see it was carried a bit as it had slight ware at the muzzle Wood on it was perfect. No box/docs/tools!

I was rather happy to get it at that price, as other than that one I have never see or heard of another in my rather large extended area and I was searching for it for quite a while.

Couldn't take it / had to go get it.

Nice!

How is the trigger pull? I found mine quit stiff as I only shoot Double action. I did finely get used to it and the gun is accurate!:D

If yours is like mine there is not much you can do to make it lower. It needs a heavy spring due to the firing pin and the other little pin that holds the cartridge where it needs to be when firing. I did a little stoning&polishing and it made a slight improvement.

Enjoy your new purchase!:)

I shoot double action also, USPSA, and Steel challenge, the trigger on this one is horrible . Not sure that I'm going to shoot this one since it has been shot yet. The triggers on my 28-2, 629 and 27-2 are much smoother and better feeling than this one, but none of them compare to my gamer guns[ 627, 625jm, and 986 ] I've work over the triggers on them and they are really sweet, spoils you on stock guns.

The gun is always way overpriced, especially since over 10,000 were made.

Could someone tell me the date of shipment and also how many were made? MDL 547 no dash 4 in. heavy barrel, square butt, 9mm, blue. ABK8869, Thanks

10,270 Production. Went to non-pin barrel in 1982 with prefix AAF. Ended production in 85. My guess would be late 82 or 83 HTH

Source: SCSW 2nd addition. That is the one I have in the computer room.

Based on the date code on your box label.......

April 21, 1983.

The product code on the 4-inch gun was 103204. The 3-inch gun 103202. (I wonder what the 103203 was).

10,000 is a pretty small number when you consider there was nothing like it before, and nothing like it made since. The M547 is a unique design in the history of S&W manufacturing. Plus, many went overseas, and I don't know if they all came back.
