Well on firing the ninth round of christening my "new" 1984 586, the thumb piece popped off when the cylinder bolt/hammer stop bar stud sheered off. Who wudda thunk? I thought the hammer nose bushings were supposed to fail first. I described that concern on my earlier post. Now I have it disassembled and am looking for the parts. Any advice or suggestions?

Interestingly, I had the same failure recently on a little used 629-4. S&W did send me a replacement part (MIM).

Considering mine was test fired only c 1984 per grip date, and only lasted a full six plus three firings of ball and dummy, I wish it would have failed way back then. I used to be of the school that revolvers are more reliable than semi auto's but no more. I have had other failures as well.
