It's a personaly thing I know but I've never been a big fan of nickle revolvers. Less beauty than a good gloss blue but less durability and harder to repair finish than the stainless.

For ME, IF the blue one was in nice shape, I'd jump on it.
IF not, I'd hunt up a 686 for the same $.
OF course, I'D NEVER tell anybody not to buy ANY classic S&W revolver :-)

If the nickel is in good shape grab it! Less made and mine has held up very well like my other 4 nickel revolvers. Another plus is the rubber grips are cheap as the wood ones are worth money. Nickel is tougher than folks think, especially compared to blue! Just keep the Hoppes #9 away.

Mines a no dash wearing Herretts, which are great for DA shooting. The factory grips are the nicest I've ever seen so they're locked up. It's a tack driver and I never had the mod made with zero problems.

I never owned a Nickel finished S&W until this year and was reluctant to buy one but after I did I have never looked back. A nickel S&W in excellent condition is one fantastic looking revolver and in fact I had a few of mine out the other day wiping them down and I just sat and admired them. I thought way didn't you ever buy one of these before and I couldn't come up with an answer. I also like blued revolvers but if the two are side by side and I can have just one I'll take the nickel gun.

I had a similar experience to Art here. I had never owned a nickel revolver until this year and promptly fell for it. They don't look as good in pictures, but in real life they come alive with sparkle.

Then again, blued is a traditional favorite. I usually don't like flash and chrome, so blued had always been my favorite finish - until I got that first nickel one.

So again it comes down to personal choice. What I would do is try to see and handle the two side-by-side, then make a decision based on which one jumped out at me. You could then also do a mechanical comparison to see if either one locked up tighter, had a better trigger, smaller barrel/cylinder gap, less cylinder end play, etc.

My photos are crap compared to Arts masterpieces but here are my nickels minus another 2.5" 19-3 that is on loan to my brother. I love em and used to be a non nickel guy except for my Mom's ancient 36. She didn't take proper care of it and the nickel has seen better days. Still shoots like a champ.
