Hi Everyone.
I have the chance to pick up a few (2 or 3) 5906 pistols, that are LEO turn ins, for a good price. The store has them with the adjustable rear sights (with the metal "ears" to protect the sight) or night sights.
From a collect-ability standpoint, which should I get? The 5906 with adjustable sights, or night sights?

Thanks!

Personally, I would get the adjustable. Have never been a fan of night sights, and they always tend to be dead on these trade-in guns. FWIW, I have replaced the Novak fixed rear on two different 5906 models (non night sight) for Novak adjustables just without the 'wings'

The night sights can (probably) be re-lamped. IMO, the adjustable sights will always be ugly (albeit functional).

That's if those are trijicon night sights on the one he's looking at.

The winged adjustable sights are so ugly... I love them. I have a 5906 with a set from 1988. 1st year gun with 1st trigger guard. They are like rear wings on a classic 1950's car . You can put night sights on anything. These winged adjustable sights were one of a kind....

The wings on those early guns are awful looking. I'd take the night sights. Dead or not, they're better looking and you can bring them back to life for like 80 bucks.

Actually mine were the factory Novak's and S&W said to contact Trijicon for relamping. I did just that and they replaced the vials no questions asked.

I was of course assuming that the ones on the pistols he was looking at were a factory night sight, if they are of another manufacture that were installed after purchase then you would obviously need to contact the manufacturer to see if it is possible.

One advantage of buying Trijicon, they will relamp them when they go out...

There must be something wrong with me because I bought a 439, 639 and a 5906 just because of the rear sights. I really like the looks of the winged adjustable sights on the S&W guns. Then again I love all S&W guns.

Here's mine!

Freebie from Dad. Former po-po gun from CT.

Very nice! Where in CT? I lived in Stamford.
My dad was a Hartford Firefighter and lives down in Portland area now. The cop worked for Cromwell from what my dad told me, although he later said Rocky Hill so who knows.

Anyway, after CT went full retard on their gun laws, dad didn't want to do the whole registration mess for the assault magazines so he gave it to me out here in free America.

Well, for me, if its a carry gun I'd select night sights. If its a target/range gun, go with adjustable. Function over form, all day long.
