Those were the words that greeted me this morning at the towns annual gun show.

As I fondled one abused 5906,the desk jockey tells me that it's a police trade in which was never sold to civilians in the 90's.

"Really?" Was my response.

He then went on about how the only way you can get them is from dealers like himself....

Silversmok3! Can you go back and buy it for me? I've been looking for one of the rare "not-in-the-90's" 5906's for my police collection!!! BWA HA HA

Son gave me one that he got for Officer of the year at UTA. He didn't like it cause it was so heavy. Thing is heavy. Shoots good. Holds lots of ammo. May be felt sorry for me cause I carried a 686!

It's not like he's a bona fide eeexpert that works at Dick's sporting goods or anything. :D

The real laugh though is probably how much he wanted for that rare specimen.

Bought my first high-powered rifle there; an M1 Garand for $87.50 about 1963. Ammo in bandoleers & clips $12.00/100.
Sigh.

I try to remind myself that gun store clerks and people running tables at gun shows are really just salesman. I rarely run into any salesman that knows as much as I do about guns. But sometimes it's fun to let them put their heads in their butts and explain things to me that I know are not true as they try and trick me into parting with my money. Like the clerk that explained me that the FEG 9HP was actually made by Browning and how S&W 3rd gens could be converted back and forth from DAO to TDA by simply swapping the safety lever.

Not saying that all clerks are ignorant but I prefer them when they are. Helps me get some really good deals!

I love to run into guys like that at gun shows....ask just the right questions and let them take the bait....give em a little line....then set the hook....just like large mouth bass:eek:

How funny. I ordered my from a store in Seattle, just up from Green Lake. Nice to know I was able to order a gun only sold to LEO.

Probably the same guy at Bass Pro who said and I quote, " There is no such thing as a 10mm handgun!!" :)

I bought one of mine brand new from an Atlanta area gun shop in the early '90's.

I really hate it when I know a lot more about the guns at a gun shop than the guys working there! Not just pistols either, but long guns as well.

One bright spot in Ohio is at Fin Feather Fur in bothe their Ashland (main store) and Canton locations. They even have one or two young women working there who are very knowledgable about the guns they sell.
