I have a 5906. I like the looks of the pinky rest on the bottom of the 6906 magazine. Will the 6906 magazine fit the 5906 or even better is the bottom floor plate interchangeable. They may be available and would be cheaper to change than buying a new magazine.
Thanks

I can't give you a difinative yes but i do know that the 459 and 5906 magazines are interchangable so I would assume the same to be true for the 6906. What year is your 5906. The one I just picked up is a 1998 model. Internally almost unused. Exteranlly, it needed some TLC. Hope to post pics soon. These are great handguns.

6906 is a 12 round mag and shorter than the 5906 mag which is a 15 round. The floor plate should be interchangeable.

Opaul the serial number is VCR 36xx. I am not sure of the age I have not been successful finding the serial number prefix. I bought mine from Buds and had it shipped to the local gun range I am a member of. The owner gives discount on transfers to members. We were going to shoot it before we excepted it to make sure it was a good gun. Buds will let you inspect it before you except transfer. If not happy you refuse transfer and they refund all money even shipping. Well the gun was so dirty you could not see the rifling in the barrel. I Was not going to except it but the dealer field stripped it and inspected it. He showed me that there were still machine marks in the slide where you would normally see wear when shot a lot. In his opinion the gun was not shot so much but just never ever cleaned. I took transfer and took it home, spent 2 hrs.cleaning and detailing it. I did replace the grips with Hogue but it looks new complete with rifling in the barrel. I have several hand guns and this is one of the best I have. Very smooth shooter and just feels good in your hand. I have shot about 250 rounds through it without a single problem. My friends kid me about it because I told them when I removed the original grip I found donut crumbs and coffee stain. Donut crumbs were a stretch but I really did find what looked like dried coffee. It also came with 2 magazines

Timowinone, according to the S&W book, I would put your gun between 1997 and 1998 Serial number UAM began ~1997 and VHN began in 1998.
I put about 50 rounds down range tonight and really like the 5906. It feels good and I like the weight. It will shoot where you point it.
Check out the pic of mine in the post called Second and Third Generation.
I replaced the worn out grips with replacement S&W grips from midway.

No more calls please, we have a winner! :)

A 5906 magazine should fit in a 6906 because the notch where the magazine release fits is at the same height in both guns. The magazine will stick out the bottom of the well and look weird, but it will function fine.

A 6906 magazine is physically too short to lock in and the top of the magazine would be well below where it needs to be to feed ammo.
