About a week ago I purchased my first S&W semi-auto. It's a 459 police trade in. Just a couple days after buying it, I go into a pawn/gun shop and I see a 5906 in excellent condition. The price tag was $339. Most of the other pistols they had for sell were atleast $500, and most of them plastic. They had a beat up used SIG for $100 more than the 5906. It took me almost a week to come up with the money, and I went back and it was still there. It seemed like nobody wanted to buy it, and it was so much cheaper than the other pistols. I bought it and I'm very happy with it. The trigger pull on this gun is so much better than the 459. I purchased two S&W semi-autos in a week. I'm hooked on these things, I just don't know what model to buy next.

For your next, look for a nice 6906. Compact, double-stack, 9mm; Excellent pistols.
I think the 6906 is one of S&W's best semi-autos - along with the 5906.

Good catch! I'd like to find one with the hooked trigger guard like yours. I've always liked those.

Let us know how it shoots.

Thanks,

Jerry

WB:

My favorite aspect to the 6906 is being able to use the 5906 mags w/the S&W+2 mag extender and you have a 15+1 capacity.. In fact I enjoy the "feel" of the 6906 w/5906 mags +extender better than with the shorter original 12rd mags.

P.S. Photos below.. Top 6906 w/12rd mag. Bottom 6906 w/15rd (5906)mag.

I'm wondering if we could have a "ban" on these 3rd generation S&W threads until I pick up a couple more? I hoping the "herd" dosen't catch on for awhile!

I shot my 459 and 5906 for the first time today. Here is a target that was shot at 25 ft. with Winchester white box. The lower group was 10 shots from the 5906 and the upper group was 10 shots from the 459. The 459 was just as accurate as the 5906, but at this target I fired the 459 and a faster rate of fire than I did with the 5906, and that's why the group is bigger. I think that I could shrink the groups with some practice. I hadn't fired a pistol in a while. Is this accuracy good, or should I expect better?
