So I went down to a small "Saturday Only" gun show, held every week, to see what I could see. I saw a few interesting S&W's today, all with boxes. A 67-3 4", 15-3 4", 4513tsw (priced high with many blemishes), a few 586's 4" and 6" in Nickel and so on... Then spotted this 14-4 6". I already have a 14-3 6" with box, docs and tools, but this one was so clean (a good 99%), I had to take it home! For some reason people seem to want the tools out of these more and more! They were missing. I guess I'll be looking for some now...

Still, I ended up giving $420 for it which I thought was fair.
Based on the SCSW 3rd, my best guess is that it was made in 1980.

Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy the pics!! :)

Very nice Model 14-4.

Nothing odd about the serial number. Mine is similar to yours, except it has the narrower hammer.

Mine was produced in 1980. The serial number is 85K95xx, so yours would have been produced about the same time as mine.

For my area, that would have been an excellent buy. I looked at one in similar condition last week (with cleaning kit) for $ 575.00. You did good. Bill

Great looking gun. The Model 14's seem to be under appreciated when compared to the Model 17 but I see that changing as there is a bit of higher movement of late on prices. If you shoot one of these you will quickly learn to love it.

That's fantastic. Nice pics. I almost paid $500 two years ago for a similar condition gun without box or papers. I really wanted the gun but my wife was with me.

Seems like you can get some good deals on the .38's, I jus bought a 15-4 (see recent smokin wallet thread) NIB with box, tools, ppwk, and wrapping paper for $475. I am very happy with that gun and price.

I just posted to your thread. VERY nice!! The Model 15 (4") is one of my favorite S&W's that they made. Mine is a -3.

Unbelievable photos. I've been to gun shows but I never see an older gun in that condition being displayed. You did great, especially for that price. There are bullseye shooters who use the K-38 for centerfire and even with having to cock the hammer they do well because these guns are so accurate. Run standard load wadcutters through it and you'll be handing the gun down to your son.
