I just wrote to the show 60 minutes via Facebook and asked them to do a story on where all the ammo is going. I'd like them to investigate and see what they come up with. What do you all think? Worth a shot!

Do you really think you'll get anything from the mainstream media? Besides, you're in Connecticut, where all guns are bad.

I really feel for you guys in occupied territories...

I think it's disappearing into people's basements.
That's it, no government or manufacturer conspiracy.
My local Fleet Farm got a shipment of Blazer .22 a few weeks ago, they must have had 200 bricks on the shelf. Limit one per customer. I bought one.
Next day I thought, well, maybe stop in and get another one....not a chance.
All gone, one brick at a time.

I agree.

We just had a Sportsman's Warehouse open up in my town. On opening day at least 200 people were lined up waiting for the doors to open. They stampeded to the ammo, and even at a one-brick limit, all the .22 was gone within an hour. The 9mm and .223 got stripped, too.

Oddly, they have plenty of .45 Colt and .44 Special. There is cheap surplus 7.62X54R, and all the .270 and 7mm Mag you can carry. There was even some .40 - which is odd because all the tin-foil types keep telling me the government has bought it all. Shotgun ammo? It is stacked high and deep.

We can only blame ourselves for this mess. We are a bunch of Panicky Petes.

Soon someone will chime in and smugly point out how they saw it coming and stocked up in 2008 and have enough to last forever. For the record, I have plenty of my centerfire stuff, but my crystal ball didn't tell me .22 ammo would get gobbled up by the ammo locusts.

most popular round made.considering the rise in centerfire ammo costs, not surprising. i didn't stock up in 2008. i had already stocked up long before that.

Except for shot shells, 22 RM dissapears as fast as it comes in around here too. OTOH I have seen boxes of 17 HMR rimfire ammo everywhere. Been thinking maybe it's time I bought a 17.

Its not going anywhere cept peoples basements. Theres a reason a lot of shops are putting limits on ammo purchases. If they didn't, the same people would keep buying it all up. The cheap it is the more of it they buy.

60 Minutes would paint any gun owner with more than 200 rounds of ammunition as a whack job. The same way they would paint anybody with 20 firearms as a whack job.

I see Scott Pelley interviewing your local deer and rabbit hunter/plinking enthusiast: "Why do you feel the need to have such an arsenal? Just what are you afraid of? Aren't you worried about it getting into the wrong hands?" Then cut to Pelley facing the camera with his serious face on, making the statement, "Adam Lanza murdered twenty children and six of their teachers in Newtown by firing 154 bullets. One. Hundred. Fiftyfour." "Tic tic tic tic tic tic tic tic tic..."

It still amazes me that many people haven't clearly identified the "enemies" of gun ownership...

60 Minutes?? Come on!! Why not put all our heads in the anti-gun "gators" mouth to see if they will bite them off....

The mass TV and print media of our country is not the "free and impartial press" we were taught it was in school years ago, but now a finely tuned radical left wing propaganda machine out to destroy our constitutional democracy and free enterprise system.... and openly advocate replacing it with a European style Socialist system.

The ammo shortage is obvious. It's basic foundation is the threat of gun legislation and confiscation. It is also enhanced, and I believe intentionally, by a suspiciously timely 1.6 billion round purchase by DHS of 9mm, 40 and 45ACP handgun ammo. Combine those issues with a reasonable fear many of us could be caught short without enough ammo for any caliber to defend ourselves, and we can see why the dealer shelves are continually bare.... and may be for a long, long time...

IF the ammo supply situation changes and IF components become available again -- buy as many primers, bullets and powder as you can afford. Ideally ....GET INTO RELOADING!! CONSIDER BULLET CASTING!! Try to become as self-reliant as possible. Resolve to never again be caught up in shortages whether they are politically contrived or otherwise... I believe you'll be glad you did. And you won't end up looking like a whimpering whiner like Warren Sear....

Nutty conspiracy theories on a gun forum make all us gun owners look like kooks.
