617 Envy

Gotta love it....

Mine is new with the stinking IL, but I love it anyway. Great fun with the Nikon Monarch scope. Can fire it all day at the range for a poultry sum.

Congrats, Allen! I found a 4" 617 a couple of years ago and it soon became one of mt favorite shooters. I like its weight - and its accuracy. Doesn't look bad either.

Enjoy Yours,

Jerry

Wow I never seem a 617 4" in the 6 shot Now I want one. I have the 617 6" in both the 10 shot and 6 shot

I want a 617 with a 8 3/8 barrel, they seem very nice, never handled one though......

Does it come with a forearm grip? Just kidding...you will notice my handle is snubbiefan, but I do have a couple of 6-inchers in 686 and 617.

Mine's a -1 4". I've put several tens of thousands of rounds through it and it continues to perform as if brand new. Among the most accurate handguns I own and it seems to thrive on every conceivable flavor of .22lr I've put through it.

Now how do you suppose that pesky K22 got into the picture. Mine is a dash 2, 10 shot, with aluminum cyl. It also has the brushed finish. I added a target hammer and trigger and a fantastic set of custom Hogue Rosewood, checkered grips. Shoots like a rifle at 50 yards. Bought it new in 1999. Big Larry

My 617 envy days have finally come to an end after picking up this 617 no dash yesterday,

Special thanks to fellow member Maximumbob who steered me into it.

So how hard should I be kicking myself?!?! Stupid money, why isn't there enough of you!!!

I definately need to stop buying guns and invest in a new camera...
Daylight helps ALOT ...but until then...
Just got home from my roadtrip and swapped the crappy rubber Hogues for a set of nice wood K targets..

And a camparo to some early 586 no dash's...

now i need to find a 4"er like that and my life would be complete :D except of course for the elusive non-underlugged 617

I bought my 8 3/8th's inch 617 no dash back in 1990 for $274! It was my first brand new S&W and is still an absolute favorite. Its original, highly figured combat stocks now grace my 586-4.

That was a great price for 1990, as the dealer cost was $435. NIB with ship.

Wish I had purchased a lot more then the few that I got.

I shoot 44 magnum 240 grain @1350 FPS for about $3.75 per 50. That's the Wally World price for CCI Mini Mag 22 LR. Casting bullets and reloading (for 35 years) sure cuts the price of ammo. I bought primers and powder right after the great one's election.

When are you going to begin reloading?

+1 on that. I shoot all the 32 stuff, 38-spcl. and 357 for 6-7 cents a round. If you can reload, the cost is about a wash. I have a neighbor that is a bullet casting machine and I get all I want for free..

BUT...I still wish we could invent a way to re-load 22LR and maybe shoot for free...now that would be the thing (LOL). I am one of those that say "big small I like them all", but if I had to get down to one....it would be one of mine dressed in 22LR.
