Been looking around my area for a new 617 6" and have found one for $769.
Seens high to me, what are they going for these days.

Thanks

As of last month, a shop near me in Penn Hills PA had both a 4" and 6" for around $680 each.

I actually bought a 4" 617 from them last November. I love that gun so much I just bought a 6" off of GB.

I have a 686+ 6" and want to get the 617 6" to match. I also plan on putting on an Ultra Dot. I want a new one so I guess I'll be patient and wait.

Bought a first year production 617 last year off of Auction Arms like NIB. Paid over 700 shipped. Gun is so nice I cannot bring myself to shoot it. Now looking for another to shoot. 4 in. no dash.

All.
Price is something that will fade from memory. Take them out, use them and get them dirty. 500 rounds thru a 617 shooting at tin cans, golf balls, and somedays even at paper targets.

Your fun will pay for the gun.

Two shops in my area both quoted me $680.00 for a nib model a little to rich for me gonna settle on a 642 no hole for the time being, maybe a used 617 or 18 will come my way in the future.

Take it easy.

I think that price is a bit high. They are wonderful guns - but I think patience will yield a better price. A nice one sold in the classifieds this weekend for substantially less.

Good Luck,

Jerry

Thanks for the input. It was an independant shop outside Seattle that had a 617 6" for $769 new. Called Wholesale Sports and they had none in stock but were selling the last one they had for $699 which seems a little more reasonable.

Last month I bought a new 617-6 (4 inch), for $679.
It surely is a pleasure to shoot!
And they are getting hard to find.

I paid $725 for the only one in my area Saturday and was glad to get it. No one around here has them, and while the prices online were better, no one had them in stock. I'd have paid more for it...I figure in a year or two it won't matter what I paid for it. If I want something bad enough, an extra $100 or so isn't going to stand in my way. As long as I'm not planning to turn it around anytime soon and try to make money on it, I'm not losing anything.

I have one of the 617 6" with factory combat grips.
I bought about a year ago for $595.00 from a local shop.
It was twenty years old roughly, but was unfired except by the factory.
I would not dream of selling it in the first place, but if I had to , I believe
it would be worth at least $795.00 because it has no lock and has such nice grips.
But, as I said, I am not selling....

Factor in the shipping and the FFL fees and that $699 one they don't have in stock seems to me to be the same price as the $769 one that's sitting there looking at you. Course that's just a dumb swamp dweller takling out of his hat ;)

Good point

There aren't any 617's in my neck of the woods at any price. Picked up one up at a gun show a few months back and paid $730 and was just glad I found one. Local range had to send theirs out to get rebuilt because they can't get one in, and they're a gun store.

I paid $650 for mine from Buds at the end of last year, and I consider myself lucky that I was able to find one. Around here there are none for sale, I saw a 6" 10sht for around $760 at one of my local shops.

Last year I traded a mini 14 in which I had $425 for a 629, used, that I didn't want except as trading material, which I traded with my lgs before I even got it home for a new 617 4". I couldn't be happier.

My local pusher has a good one; 6", no lock, 6-shot; I'm not sure what dash number; with beautiful combats for $695. I've already got a couple of them and I thought it was a bit on the high-side, but apparently not. If anyone is interested:

John Brown's Armory, Rochester, PA
724 728-4444; ask for Tim or Tom. I believe they are closed on Wednesdays, but they may answer their phone.

It's the law of supply and demand at work. The 617 is a VERY popular gun so it can command a price that seems a bit high. About 2 1/2 weeks ago Davidson's listed that they had 99 in stock, one week later the stock level was zero.

BTW, if you want to try and locate a used one on the cheap, try looking at a Highpoint or Lorcin dealer in the seedier parts of town. It's how I got my 617. All those idiots looking for a cheap 9 or 40 didn't want anything to do with a puny 22LR so it sat unloved and unwanted. Their loss was my gain, I got a great price.
