I have had a 325NG for about 5 weeks and really like shooting it. What I would like to find is 2.5 or 3 inch steel frame 45 acp. S&W's web site doesn't show one. My question is did smith make a short barrel steel 45acp? I think I know what I am saying hope every one else does.

yes they made a 625 3" 45acp gun, they sell for around 1000+

Here is a pic I found of one for sale just to give you an idea.

I bought a 2" barrel from Numrich and had it installed on my 625-4. It worked out very well and I'm quite pleased with it. It didn't cost as much as I thought it would, though my gunsmith isn't too eager to do another one of these any time soon.

I have one of those Numrich barrels and believe they were intended for the lightweight fixed-sight Performance Center revolvers (625-10, for example). Did you have to have a special front sight mounted to make use of the adjustable rear sight on your 625-4?

I bought the barrel because I thought I would someday come across a 1917 or Brazilian that was sound but for a bad barrel. I was going to make a two-tone belly gun. But then a few days ago I stumbled across a 625-3 at my LGS and committed to that. I'm not giving up on the project, but the urgency has certainly been reduced.

Well I could pick up a 625JM and have the barrel replaced. But I bet I am looking at well over $1000 in the end.

I don't think you are necessarily in four-digit territory if you want to pick up (or build) a three-inch 625. While the three-inch 625-3s are in demand and seldom seen, they are not flat-out rare. I picked up one recently when I stumbled across it at my LGS. It needed a bit of attention (action was unlubricated and there was a little carbon grime in the nooks and crannies), but in general it was obviously little fired and still had its original box. The asking price was $900, but I got it out the door for less than that, including tax and the California transfer fee. If this gun can be had at that price in CA, I have to believe that even better deals can be found in other states.

The message is: Take heart, and don't stop looking. You will find what you want.

Those are the LONG barrel snubbies

The short ones are 2"

However the factory ones were fixed sight and Scandium frames

They were made in 45ACP and 45Colt

When these were in production, I bought 5 extra barrels so I could build up a few
on stainless adjustable sight 625s

Just have not done it yet

This is true - a buddy of mine that loved my 625 3" found one recently at a local gun show for $600.00, so good deals can be found.

Good luck with the search,

Had to put in a pic of mine. :)

I was working in a gun store when these were released in the late '80s - I thought the concept was insane. Who would want a revolver when he could have a semiauto? That held more rounds! Then I grew up . . . :)

DANG it Erich............I used to like you. It's not fair that you have one, and I don't. And you probably got a smoking deal on it too. Keep this up, and you're gonna give lawyers a bad reputation!

I hate every one of you dirty rotten scoundrels that have a 625! There I said it.:mad::mad: .......... ;)

I am just kidding (please don't get upset). They are all beautiful. I have been trying to get my mits on a model 1988 or a 1989 45 ACP for quite some time but I either get outbid or something falls through. :(

I love the pics guys, but it is cruel punishment for me to look and want so bad something I can never quite get my hands on.

I am looking for one with a partridge front sight and a 5" barrel. I guess the search continues (anyone have one for sale ? :o )

Well, now you've gone and done it, and given all the 625 owners out there another thread to brag about their babies... :-)

I generally don't like MIM parts, but I was able to buy this 625 at a decent price new about 12 or 13 years ago, and when I shot it for the first time I knew it was a keeper: It's accurate, with a terrific trigger to boot.

In 2001 I had Roy Fishpaw make the grips it wears...

Yes, I had to have a very tall front sight installed to be compatible with the adjustable rear. I wanted to be able to sight it in with 255 gr. bullets. I haven't shot it over the chrono yet, but I'm willing to bet that it will shoot a 255 gr. bullet at least as fast as a 5" auto will shoot factory loaded 230 gr. ball.

I thought about buying another 2" barrel as a spare but the gunsmith who did the work is not doing any gunsmithing at the moment. Retail sales are so high that he no longer has time for 'smithing.

Take heart, Erich. Happens to the best of us. :D

Not me! I'm going the other way. I'm going to enjoy my second childhood one hell of a lot more than my first! :)

I've located 2 3" 625's for friends over the past year. One was a shooter grade, but unmodified and no box for $550. The other was fired, but near new in the box with all. I think the final price between the buyer and seller ended up something less than $800.

I like those grips, nice!
Now let's do some of that bragging you are talking about.
