So I'm in the process of buying a 625-8; Guns.com shipped to my LGS and I'm now waiting for my patriarchal and munificent government to bestow its gracious approval on transferring it to my humble, serf-like self. It is marked as above, with the Jerry Miculek branding on the frame and JM grips. But the barrel is the 4" skinny "mountain gun" profile and so marked. .45 ACP and so marked (laser). Double mag-na-porting. I've got a 629 Mountain and a 657 Mountain, but I thought the only .45 ACPs in that configuration were a limited run 'bout twenty years ago for Springfield Armory. So what did I buy? (Sorry, no pictures; gun is at the shop, and I've never posted a photo here before and doubt I know how. Thank you!

I remember seeing the same gun for sale at guns.com and thought most likely it was an aftermarket job either by a smith or sent back to the factory to have a barrel from another mountain gun put on the original JM frame. Regardless though if it’s factory configuration or not, it’s a cool gun and should be in good company with your other MGs.
Isn’t that what Booker T had in mind with that band? ;)

A mountain gun profile barrel is not an original factory configuration for the 625-8, either the JM or Performance Center revolvers.

I'd love to see a pic when you recieve the revolver.

Sorry for the very poor photo quality; took photo of computer screen from listing. You can barely see the dual Mag-Na-Porting, and cannot see the factory laser-etched ".45 ACP" on the barrel's left side, nor (obviously) the "Mountain Gun" lettering on the barrel's right side.

Yep that’s the one. Assuming it is in 45 acp it’s a great cartridge for that configuration. Really warm loads are no fun in a gun when the weight has been trimmed down. 45 acp loadings should definitely keep shooting levels in the comfortable zone while still being able to deliver enough power for most applications.

S&W SC 4th edition lists a "Bangers Special" Mountain Gun...
160932 product code.. but states Cocobola grips and no mention of porting. my 625-8 was a non JM 5 inch

I once picked up what I thought was a run-of-the-mill rifle, only to find it had unique specs. It became a conversation starter at the range. Maybe your find is a hidden gem, or a limited edition waiting to be appreciated.

Standard 625-8 {JM} that I have had for a while. Use to go on every range visit. Still have the factory issued stocks for this model. Bob
