I have a 625 with the standard ramped front sight that I’d like to change to a Partridge type with a gold bead. It looks like it would be as simple as knocking out the pin and replacing it with the new sight but I need to make sure I get the right replacement. The bottom part of the Partridge sights I see online seems to very, so I’d like to ask if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Gold Bead on 3" and 5"Model 625s

These were done by recently retired Massachusetts gun smith Mike Larocca. Both work beautifully.

I am not a gunsmith but did replace the front sight on a 625 and a couple other Smith & Wessons. The trick is to have the hole in the sight just barely above the holes in the sight base. This way, pounding the pin in pulls the front sight down tightly into the base. You get the right fit by slowly removing material from the bottom of the front sight. Or using a needle file on the hole in the front sight but I certainly never had one small enough. Bottom line: buy 3 pins because you will bend one and be very patient.

There's a detailed "how to" in the first post of this thread....

625-6 In for spa treatment

If you're referring to the "bottom" of the sight, there are two types. There is the rounded style, which is for the pinned type, that needs to be drilled. Then there is the notched type, which is for the spring loaded deluxe guns, which don't have a perpendicular pin, but a spring loaded ball that the sight notch sits under. Make sure that you measure your sight from the bottom, flat part to the top, and not from the rounded part. Here are some that Larry has.
