629-6 jammed

Hello there

I'm new on this forum

I have a problem with my 629-6.
After a shot the weapon jams and I can't open the cilinder.
It doesn't happen every time.


Is there anyone who can help me?

What kind of ammo first off are you using, factory or handloads? What is the bullet weight, start there and give the guys here more fine details of what happens. Believe me they will have the answers!!!!

Welcome to the Forum.. when you say "jams" is the cylinder able to turn to the next shot of not? sounds like above, too much pressure, or improper headspace ( too close to the rear, against recoil shield..................yes, the ammo would be my concern also....................look for 'stuff' under the extractor 'star', only takes a grain of unburned powder to lock things up.
If the gun is "new", being stainless, you may have a few burrs here or there....................really have to "see" what happened........

it can be several reasons:
1)check the ejector rod...if loose it will back out jamming the cylinder
2)clean with care under the ejector star...crud under there will cause it to back out and jam the cylinder...do not lubricate under there as it attracts junk
3)if a primer has been seated shallow or,after firing it backs out this will also jam
4)the ejector rod is bent....
most likely you will find your problem in 1-3...it happens and is an easy fix...let us know what you find...

Thanks for all the anwers.
I'll give some more info.

I always use 240gr fn and 200 gr swc bullets
I have the gun for probably 2 or 3 years, and never had a problem with It.
I've cleaned the gun several times very good.
The ejectorrod en star are clean and aren't loose.
When It happens I couldn't turn the cilinder or do anything else.
When I hit a couple of times on the cilinder with my hand I can open or rotate the cilinder.

It happens with factory and handloaded ammo.
Several gunsmiths have looked at It and couldn't find a problem in the action.

Does the dash-6 model have the hammer-nose mounted on the hammer, or is the firing pin mounted in the frame?

The firing pin is mounted in the frame with a small spring.

I't isn't easy for me to sent It back to the S&W factory because i'm not living in the USA.
The S&W Importer in The Netherlands is very slow.
If I sent I there It'll cost a lot of time for I have It back

I would say the fireing pin bushing is set back and when fired the primer sets back into a sunken bushing. Had this happen to me, and the only fix was the factory.

The firingpinbushing Is recently replaced because the old one was cracked.

no jeeter the firing pin is not on the hammer

the only reason i know this is because i have one. i traded a roll your own bulgy plum 74 that mhg and i cooked up to Big John on the files for a new in the box 629-6 a few years back.

Does the new firing pin bushing sit flush with the breech face? seeing that it has been replaced, I would start looking there. The spring that forces the firing pin back into place could be weak. The bushing could have a burr which keeps the firing pin from moving freely and receding back into the bushing fully.

Just another added thought: Are you sure the trigger is returning all the way forward? Maybe a weak trigger-return spring.
