Nice piece! Never owned one, but the 29 / 629 Classic 5", has always seemed like the ideal magnum.

BTW, how do those compact Hogues handle full power loads? I was thinking about putting a set on my 625-6 / .45 Colt MG.

Probably the most comfortable grip on any of my handguns. I don't reload so the only comparisan is factory stuff. I've shot a bit of everything up to the 240gn Magnum loads, and the grips are great.
They're cut thinner than most, with a palm swell, and I have smaller hands so they're a pleasure for me to shoot.

Wow, some nice 629s here. I know I'm dredging up an old thread but whqt the Hell.... I love & bought mine last summer. I like it. The trigger is crisp, it breaks so clean and oh so... u know.... Smith & Wessonlike... C.B.

Here is how my 629-6s are normally gripped, for launching my .44 Russians, Specials, and wimpy Magnums:

For several fall deer seasons, I regripped with the .500 Magnum Hogues and put a Weigand SS rail and Weaver H2 2x28 scope on my 6"-er. I never bought a license - the combo was fun plinking at 50-100yd, however.

more info on the gun please!
I wish I new more about the gun myself. I have just recently become interested in Revolvers and feel fortunate that this is my first purchase. I have been lurking on this site to try and learn from the wealth of information here. I have been gathering some info on this gun and adding it so if anyone knows anything else feel free to chime in.

I was told it's a pretty rare gun but I don't have the knowledge to guarantee that as fact. I just have never seen one quite like it myself. Supposedly it was only manufactured in 1998 and only distributed by one wholesaler.

The info I do have is as follows:

It's a Comped hunter from the S&W performance center built on the N-Frame.

6" Barrel
Integral Weaver Base
Fully adjustable micrometer click rear sight
Dovetailed Millett red ramp front sight
Removable 4-Port Compensator
Glass beaded Stainless Steel finish
Altamont round butt wood grips with fingergrooves
Flash chromed and radiused hammer
Smooth combat trigger with overtravel stop
Unfluted cylinder with chamfered charge holes and a ball detent lockup

Something doesn't add up here, results in the recent poll 92 rubber 54 wood Grip material for magnum shooters. Yet the photos in this thread seem to favor wood about 3 to 1. Either people are switching grips to dress up guns for the photo, or the subset of shooters that take polls is different than the subset that post pictures.
It is all fine of course, I just thought I would post this observation.
