I have a 629 v-comp I bought new in February of this year. I am having leading issues where lead is forcing into the space between the removable compensator and the barrel cone. From the start it has forced enough lead in between the barrel and the compensator that I have to remove it with a rubber mallet after 25 rounds. I returned it to the factory and they said there was nothing they could do about leading but did recut the forcing cone, which did nothing to reduce the leading. Has anyone else experienced this? I am very pleased with the way the gun shoots and fits in my hand, but I reload using mostly hardened lead bullets, so this is not something I am not prepared to live with. I use mid pressure loading data and have had another 44 mag with compensator that was non-removable and had no problems. I scoured all sources I could find and found nothing from S&W about not using lead bullets in this gun. Any help or thoughts are appreciated.

You should be using the no compensated cover when shooting lead. The compensator is for copper bullets. That's what I've always been told.

Honestly I haven't used the non compensated end yet. Although I don't understand why it would make a difference I will give it a try. Thank you.
