632 power port question

Well about two years have passed since I posted. I continue looking for S&W's in 327 magnum, however the Ruger revolvers keep getting purchased instead!! My grandkids were down over the summer and loved shooting all the revolvers.

I would have shot you a PM if you were still close to me....there was a Dan Wesson 32 mag listed on TGT. It has been the only 32 mag that I have seen offered locally in quite a while - I think that you bought them all and are hoarding them :p

May I jump in here, Please?

I too, have been forced to purchase Rugers because S&W has chosen to discontinue producing any Revolvers chambered for the .327 Mangum. Several years ago, before I became aware of this new caliber Ruger was producing the SP-101 with a 3" barrel but then discontinued producing that barrel length for the 4.1" barrel which I purchased. Now to my point: I found an older 3" Sp-101 with a Ported barrel. I was always under the impression that Magna-Porting depreciated the value but wanting a 3" really seriously I completed the purchase. Now I'm wondering if the actual value is depreciated or enhanced? Sorry to the OP, no intention to hijack your thread and I sure hope S&W eventually wises up & decides to produce more Revolvers chambered for the .327 Mangum caliber.

I have to admit I've pretty much given up on ever seeing S&W get serious about producing 327 revolvers, even though the few they made, and the customs some of us have produced, have shown themselves to be excellent Guns, and the clamor for more of them, at least on platforms such as this one has been noticeable.

In decades long past, the manufacturers listened to their customers and brought back or at least modified models that had enjoyed a resurgence in popularity, witness the Third Model 44 HE and Colt's line of SAAs, but now the bean counters seem to rule and they don't want to listen to the customer base.

It's funny, while a soldier our Capitan retired and opened a gun shop. I visited and he showed me a model 631 in 32 h&r magnum with2 inch barrel. We both had shot together for years and he told me less recoil and one more shot.
I stepped out to the range and shot a cylinder and was very impressed with lack of recoil and accuracy. We cleared the line and at 5 yards I had blown the X out of the bullseye!! I bought that revolver and now have 10 revolvers in that caliber.

Peyton,
Was that long ago 631 the fixed sight version that looked like a Model 60? I've got a serious Jones for the adjustable sighted version, which I would normally expect to have a 4" barrel.

Well, I truly TREASURE my 631. I bought it when it first hit the market. It has not disappointed. It was also a dandy in the field on edible small game.

Light, handy, and excellent accuracy at 25 yards. It is excellent with home cast bullets of proper design in both .32 S&W Long cases as well as the fine .32 H&R Mag brass from Starline.

It is a shame it is no longer in production.

Yep, the two inch version was exactly like the model 60, except with six bullets. The 4 inch 631 has great sights and I am amazed that S&W quit making these fine revolvers'.

If S&W would reintroduce their 4" barreled Model 631 with adjustable sights, I'd be very tempted to buy one even though they would likely have the hated Hillary Hole!

I wanted to update everyone on the best revolver caliber in the world, the 327 magnum!! My daughter and her kids spent the summer with our family. I gave a stern look to the three kids and told them "You are no interest to me if you touch a computer, tablet or phone". Leave them alone and let's hear the ROAR!!
The next morning we all went to the range with all my 32 revolvers and a ton of ammo. They have all shot before but I made sure they knew the safe handling of them. I started them shooting 32 ACP, 32 long, 32 h&r and 327's. I supervised everyone with my daughters able assistance. I load them with radium cartridges or empty cases. You'd laugh at the recoil an empty cartridge would have.
Once they showed their proficiency in hitting the target I got out the 327's and they did well. Of course I had the target's near the firing line and changed them frequently. That way we could check out results. As the day continued I walked the targets further away.
Good ear muffs are absolutely critical and it made a difference in their enjoyment.

Lastly, my youngest grandson asked which guns are for them, "Why all of them are when your old enough"!! I do have to admit I am praying for a lot more range time first.
They did observer that the 632-1 was louder, but had a much easier trigger to pull than the 632-2. The 632-2 trigger is smoothing out after being fired more.
And in full disclosure the Ruger's in 327 magnum were in attendance and they enjoyed those a well.

This is the gun S&W should have chambered the 327 in!

The pic does this gun a favor! It hides ALL the imperfections from being a truck gun for years. It was rechambered to 327 Mag. This gun makes me look like a real marksman at 50yds! I only wish I was as good as the gun is capable of!

I wouldn't pay to have a gun ported, and I wouldn't pay to have a gun "un-ported".

I would either take it and accept the port, or leave it and find another option. However, that's me, so you do what you feel is necessary.

Or it could be made in stainless as well. I'm loving my "Project 616" that I had to have custom built because of the recalcitrance of a certain company formerly headquartered in the socialist nation of Massachusetts.

PS I've added a 616 picture
