I recently purchased a law enforcement 64-5 (the last year of production) and it came with a forged hammer and MIM trigger. SW book verifies this as original. When comparing to an older 64-5 it appears that the trigger lever just "free floats" in a pocket inside the trigger housing and is not pinned like older models.. Is there any possibility this could create a problem with dependability or smoothness? Does anyone know?

To clarify the trigger lever sits in a pocket inside of the trigger, and falls out when trigger is removed from revolver. Is it supposed to be loose or should it be staked or something?

New MIM trigger is just set up that way.

I have a CCJ prefix 64-5 that's the same as you describe.

Mine appears to be all original and works fine.

That's normal, as others have noted. I've never experienced it as a problem, functionally speaking, although you will have to keep closer track of it when disassembled.
