I picked up a 4" 64-5 today for $250. I think I got a good deal on it. It was a little dirty when I got it, but it cleaned up really well. Serial number is CCHXXXX so I guess that puts it around 1997 or so. This is one of the guns that Mandalay Bay security used for qualification. The place I bought it from said it was fired once a year which I didn't really believe until I saw the gun. There is almost no turn line, and it doesn't look like it was fired that often as there was almost no carbon on the forcing cone.

I really wanted a 3" model 65, but I couldn't pass up this 64. The store had a batch of them, and there are now only four left.

Similar to the ones SOSS was selling recently.
Yours has an interesting engraved ID on it.
Some armoured car or rent-a cop company must've traded in a boatload of these.

I got one of these, a RB under the Uncle Mike's"

This one had a dinged crown on the barrel. Not too bad otherwise. It's in the shop for a re-crown.

442, I'd jump on one of those in a heartbeat! You did well! There are cheaper out there, but in what kind of shape. I bought a 65-3, 3" around Thanksgiving, and a 28-2 on Christmas day. 4 new to me Smiths this year. Done spending for a while. Enjoy your 64! Bob

MB stands for Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, and their security force qualified/carried these guns.

The store has four left, and I think this is the best one of them all they had left. One had some chips in it, but this one looks great.

I picked up a couple of 28s this year, and have been looking for a 65 3" for a reasonable price for some time. Don't think I will be able to find them any time soon since my local store stopped consignments due to a law, and Gunbroker's prices are normally high unless you get lucky like I did with the 4" 28 with a S serial number I did a few weeks ago.

When I took out the foam in the blue box the gun came in, I found the instruction manual and other paperwork that the gun came with all those years ago. Starting to think I got a pretty good deal.

Small World! I picked up one of these Mandalay Bay 64s on Friday / 30 Dec 11. They must be flying out the door as there were six or seven when I was there. I went in looking for a 1911 holster and came out with yet another K frame Smith that I didn't need. But we all know, it's not about need, is it?

I got my 64-8 trade in recently, just fired it for the first time this afternoon and I'm totally happy with it.:)

I put a set of rubber Hogue Bantams on it, I love those grips on my "new gen" stainless RB S&W's. I'm not a huge fan of the Uncle Mikes, I prefer to keep as much of the RB grip profile as possible and the Bantams allow me to do that.

They also had some model 60s, but I didn't want to even look at them. The store received a previous batch of 64s that sold out quickly, and it looks like they only have a few left.

I try to stay away from that store as much as possible. I went in looking for a holster for my 442, and made a comment that I would like to get a .22 at some point. They showed me a 22/32 kit gun which I bought. Nice gun though after that I started buying more guns and transferring through them.

I got a 64-5 4" earlier this year.

Great gun. Shoots as accurately as my 686 4". I love it.

I switch grips on it - usually between the Hogue conversion and Hogue RB.

Congratulations on your good deal. I paid $350 for mine and thought it was a good deal.

I got what Sportsman Outdoor Superstore called a "police trade-in" M64-5 on gunbroker. Besides the reasonably decent finish and grungy grips, the only problem it had was .002" endshake. I promptly fixed that problem. The rest took a while longer. I don't have pics of before. I was so excited about getting started I forgot to take one. I do have a pic of the grips before.

On the gun. Ignore the weird reflections of my ceiling

I also put in a Wilson spring kit. 9lbs DA, 3lbs SA. I haven't had a chance to take it to the range to test for accuracy or reliabilty yet. I think these so called "police trade-in" guns have real potential for little money.

My 64-5 is the best gun money I ever spent. I picked up one of the "J&G" DAO 64's.

For under $300 I have a trigger that is superior to those on my Performance Center guns. Tack driving accuracy. All in a good looking package. I couldn't be more pleased. Enjoy yours! Regards 18DAI

I might change the grips because I am not a big fan of them, but I am looking forward to trying out the gun. When I want to shoot .38 specials, I end up using my 681 since my only other .38s is a 1909 model and a 442.
Neither gun is that ideal for the +P ammo I have.

The 64 should be a great addition to my little collection.
