About a week ago I asked my LGS to order a 640 Pro Series. He is on a list with S&W now and said it could take maybe even a year, hopefully not. Given the QC issues we read about here waiting a year for that to happen does not inspire confidence. Since I placed the order, which I won't back out on, I discovered the SP101 Wiley Clapp version. Nice looking gun with very much the same attributes as the 640 Pro, give or take a couple, depending on your perspective. When the 640 Pro arrives I will give it a thorough check out before accepting it. If it fails I will not mess around and then I will find an SP101 Wiley Clapp version and buy it instead. I have purchased 2 firearms from this LGS and like doing business with him and this is by no means a reflection on him. I've liked my one and only S&W and I really like this forum, but after a long (possibly) wait I can assure you I won't pay to be their QC guinee pig. There, that's off my chest, let's hope it goes smooth and my story is more like the majority that loves their 640 Pro and has had no problems!

Stay safe, John

PS: So now I have 2 orders in with S&W, the 640 Pro and a set of previously ordered 60 Pro Series grips. What am I thinking.........????

Yeah, I don't "need" one either, but the people who like them on this forum have tipped the scale to the get one side for me. Just hoping for a good experience with the order.

Stay safe, John

Kentucky Gun Co has them in stock online right now and there are always a dozen or more on Gunbroker. Why wait an unknown period of time for your LGS to get one in when you can have it in two days if you buy online? If it is not a straight gun you don't have to accept it and send it back. Kentucky Gun Co has the lowest price around on many Smith revolvers.

I would like to find a 640 Pro also. I have a 640-1 and a 340 Sc that I refinished in KG Gunkote titanium, and a Big Dot front sight and a Crimson Trace laser. If I can't find a 640 Pro, these will have to do.

I am aware of the GB and KY deals out there. This will pacify my desires while my finances catch up with "Thing 1" getting married in less than a month. I do also want to give my LGS a chance, if it comes sooner, fine. Ya never know, I may grow tired of waiting. In that case my LGS said that's fine and it looks like a good seller anyway.

Stay safe, John

My Model 640 Pro Took 2 Years To Get Here

I ordered my Model 640 Pro from a S&W stocking dealer when they were first announced, and it took a little over 2 years to get here. I believe part of the reason was the demand, and probably because New York is not a gun friendly state so the distributors don't fill orders here as quickly. I've stated before that this gun is the BEST CCW weapon I've ever had. Shown (again) with a DeSantis belt slide holster and Spegel Centennial grips.

I have had mine for over a year now and I still can't let it alone for more than a few minutes. While the Wiley Clap SP101 is a fine revolver, it is a Clydesdale compared to the thoroughbred 640 Pro. The highly polished stainless steel, the slim grips, the smooth trigger and the perfect sights make it the one you can't handle or look at enough. With those Hornady Critical Defense cartridges in the moon clip, it seems like they fly into the cylinder like a laser guided missile. I look forward to my days off each week because I can carry my 640 Pro with a pouch full of moon clips and my vest pockets holding 5 Star speed loaders and still feel as light as a feather compared to my duty rig with the N frame 625, all those 230 gr. bullets in 12 full moon clips, not to mention Taser, handcuffs, and baton. Kinda makes me want to go back to plain clothes duty.

Get a 640 Pro Series and you will never regret it. I love mine and it has taken over as my daily carry. I don't even know why I have any other sub compact guns anymore honestly. If it's not the 640 Pro in my belt then it must be the 1911.

Thanks for the positive responses! We will have 31 years in come October, Thing 1 is my oldest daughter and we are looking forward to the wedding. Thing 2 (youngest daughter) is engaged also with no date set yet. Thing 1's fiancé is anti gun and has asked me not to bring firearms into his home. Well, he didn't say anything to me but my daughter conveyed that message to my wife. Thing 2's fiancé is quite the opposite, hunter, fisher, and trapper. Anyhow, the delay on the 640 Pro is not a bad thing yet as my 21 year old 640 38spl will continue to handle (part of) CCW duties until the new one arrives. I do look forward to real sights as aging eyes could use them now.

Stay safe, John

Keep the faith Edmo, me thinks it will be worth the trouble! Even with some bad starts everybody seems to get what they bargained for in the end.

Stay safe, John

Got my 640 Pro a month ago. It replaced my 642 for everyday carry. There is a noticeable weight difference but after my range visit I'll deal with the extra weight anytime. The trigger is smooth and the sights are perfect. I carry it with Critical Defense FTX 110 grain 38's.
