Just purchased a no lock 642 and would like some info on it. The serial number starts CAH5XXX, but the model number stamped below the serial number is 442-1.

Year of manufacture?

Any idea why it is stamped 442 and not 642?

CT vs. LaserMax grips?

Sure like it.

Appreciate comments and info.

Why do you think it's a 642 instead of the 442 it is marked as? 442's were made with a nickel finish.

CAH is probably a 1996 gun, the first year the 442-1 was made.

Pictures please.

As soon as boss gets home with camera will post pictures.

And thanks for all of the info. Did find out it was made between 1993 and 1995, is that correct?

I assure you I am not trying to be smart, but I would guess the reason the Model says 442 is because that is what you got. The 442 in satin nickel is a really nice gun, but it burns me that the gun dealer misrepresented what you were buying. Of course, I am assuming you did not get the original box and papers.

I suggest you call 1-800-331-0852 and select the choice for customer service. You can read the serial number to the customer service rep and he can confirm the correct model and other information about the revolver.

It gives all gun dealers a bad name, and most are good decent, honest people. Some, however, will say anything to make a sale.

Does your sales receipt say you got a Model 642 or a Model 442? I have to tell you - I would not let this sit. I would at least call and complain and let him know you know about his material misrepresentation. I would like to hear his B.S. story!

The receipt states S&W Airlite, serial number and price, that is it.

My fault for not looking as they say, buyer be ware!!

Hi Pothole,

I have both the Crimson Trace and the Lasermax grips. Both have their plusses and minuses. All told, I think the Lasermax is a better product and is what I have on my J frame for concealed carry. By the way, I wrote the Lasermax company to ask if they were going to make grips for the K, L or N frame revolvers and received a pretty terse and rude reply that they weren't.

Best of luck to you,

Dave

If The reciept said Airlite you got an Airweight
The difference is just a couple of ounces & a couple hundred dollars too.

Double-O-Dave: I'd appreciate a little more detail on the pluses and minuses of the Crimson Trace and Lasermax if you have a chance. It's always nice to get a little unbiased info from somebody who isn't try to sell you one or the other. Thanks in advance.
