642 Model II

Since I just started pricing the 642 TALO, how is the $459 price (includes shipping) that I received from Buds make an offer?

Prices vary, but I usually see 'stock' 642/442 models new between $390-$400. Add $50-$80 for a PC. Just spitballing it from memory.

Take your time and look at the SKU numbers. There are a host of variations on the same platform. Some are S&W catalog while some are Talo (or other) commissioned. Shop around and find what fits best.

A Talo edition at my LGS is currently $475. 10% off that price a couple of times per year during special sales.

They currently have one in stock.

Try the Barami hip grips. I use mine daily. Very afordable, & work well.

After a lot of thought about changing over my EDC Sig 290 to a J-frame and doing my research I ran across this thread. So....middle of next week my new Talo II 642 should be at my lgs. Really looking forward to it, pictures coming soon. I hope ya'll don't mind seeing one that's been shot a lot and carried more.

Look forward to seeing your pictures.

Do you mind me asking how much you paid? I am looking for a comparison to the price that I was quoted. I too am a Sig guy and this would be my first purchase of a Smith & Wesson revolver as well. Thank you.

No problem, it was $480 but the way I figure it by the time you added in the transfer fee it was almost a wash. Plus I really like to support my local gun store when I can. Its run by a good guy and in a small town where without them we'd be looking at nearly a hour just to get the joy of shopping at a big box store with some kid who doesn't know anything about guns.

This thread is fantastic. I have been wanting to get a 642, and the 10186 TALO looks like a good "bang" for the buck:
Moon clips
Polished trigger
No Integrated lock
Can someone explain what the "Performance Center Tuned Action" includes?
Unfortunatly, I can't find a 10186 TALO local so please keep the pictures coming. Thank you.

I like just about everything on the 642 II. There is a similar 2-tone 442 available as a Chattanooga commissioned piece, minus moon clip cut and with hip grips (which I removed from mine right away):

The PC tuned trigger is a very basic trigger job. Most of them are just right because I prefer a heavy trigger for carry. The PC tuned models are a little smoother, slightly lighter. IMHO the polished trigger on these models are worth the small extra charge alone.

The 442 11516 PC Chattanooga also caught my eye, but I do like the flexability of the moon clips on the 642 10186 TALO.
Thanks again.

I have a 640 (38 only) and 642. Love the size of the guns. Last weekend shot both and the 640 out shot the 642. I did change the springs in the 640 with an Ampex kit. Made a huge difference. Going to see if Ampex makes a spring kit for the 642.

I do love the grips on the Talo gun.

I am still leaning 642 10186 TALO. I am thinking to swap to a set of Crimson Trace LG-405 laser grips, and leave the synthetic/wood insert grips in the safe. I would prefer to not modify the internals of the gun.

Ricky, do you think you have better luck with your 640 because the trigger is easier to use or perhaps it weighs a little more and is easier on recoil?

Thanks again.

J-Frames are my favorite. I like to carry them Two at a time.

The 405's are a great choice for a very concealable laser grip system. I have them on a 340pd and they are perfect if you want to keep your gun profile very small.
