645 vs 4506/4566 vs P220 ST?

Yesterday I sold and traded my Glock 36 and 21. Too wide for my hands and too much perceived recoil. I still have my Beretta Cougar and USP compact stainless in 45. I am considering a very nice 645 for sale in my area. I have not owned a 645 in the past. I have owned both a 4506 and P 220 ST. I loved shooting them but got rid of them due to their weight.

I will carry the new gun occasionally but mostly it will be a bedside gun or range gun. Should I hold out for the 4506/4566, P220 ST or jump on this one? I have read a lot of the 645 posts on the forum and still am not certain which would be best. What is the consensus on the above guns?

You might also consider the S&W 457. Similar to the compact 4516, but much lighter with an alloy frame.

I have a 645, 4506, Zanders 457 and a CS 45..
For carry you can't beat CS45.
The 645 is just plain sexy.

I have a 645, 4506 and a P220 which is my favorite. I'd go with the P220.

I have a 4506, CS 45, & 4513 TSW. I carry the CS 45 (for over 20 years ), the 4506 naps in the safe. It has 50 rounds through it. The 4513 TSW rests beside the bed. All have low usage and excellent care, which is why I depend on them.

I have a m645 , 745 , 945 , 2 457's , a m4566TSw and a 4567 . The one I carry is the m457 . You need to borrow or rent the gun(s) you are looking at and go from there .

I've had or have a 4505,4566,4516 and a early 4513; as well as Sig 220 (W. Ger),245, and an all stainless 220.

A "Bedside gun" with "some carry".......of the one's listed above....I'd go with the Sig 220.

Bedside only....... the 4566 or stainless 220...the 220 has a rail so it might get the edge.

Concealed carry...... the Sig 245 Compact (6+1)..... or the 4513 if you can find enough 6rd mags.

I have had two carpal tunnel surgeries on my right hand. I am also developing arthritis in both hands. So I am a little sensitive to recoil. Both Glocks and most alloy frame 45's cause some pain. The Cougar (rotating barrel) and the stainless HK do not cause me problems. The all stainless guns do not cause me any problem. They are comfortable to shoot but are heavy to carry. That is why I am considering going back to them.

If you didnt like the recoil pulse from the Glocks, you may not care for the recoil pulse from the 220ST. While it is not as pronounced as that of the aluminum framed 220s, it is still there.

The 4566 is a great pistol, but it is thicker than a 645 and..........just as heavy.

The advantage of the 645 over the others is less felt recoil and it is thin. Thinner than all the other guns you mentioned.

But honestly, with a good belt and holster, I've never found the weight of any of the guns you mentioned to be a problem. And I own or have owned and carried and shot all of them extensively.

My pick, from those you mentioned, would be a 4566. A "goldilocks gun". Just the right size, just the right weight, a very good trigger - to enable you to put 45 rounds on target quickly and accurately. And still concealable.

Just came from Cabelas Centerville, no 645 in Library. I did pick up the 645 about a half hour after that. It was a safe queen for many years. Last owner put 100 rounds through it since he owned it. Looks like new, but signs it has been polished on the slide. I am not a one gun kind of guy but my billfold wishes I was. I traded off 2 handguns, sold two and picked up three this weekend. Got a 66-2, Sig M11A1 and the 645.

Congrats on the 645!

And if that doesnt work out for you, Id be just fine carrying that 66-2. Lots of good work can still be done by someone who knows how to run a 66-2. And 357 is STILL my favorite caliber. Regards 18DAI
