Chuck, it all depends on your location. A few months back I sold a 4" M66-2 with original grips & no box or papers that was in excellent condition for $475.00, which is what I paid for it about a year prior.

I liked the fact that, according to the serial #, it was probably manufactured in 1983, which was the birth year of the young man who bought it.

Because this young buyer was also a Drummer, like myself, I threw in a few extra's for him, speedloader's, gun rug etc.....

Thanks Ogy, I was gonna try to ask if he had some wiggle room in the price and maybe give it to me for 500 out the door. We'll see.

I guess price depends a lot on where you live.

I just picked up a 66 no dash 4" at a local show FTF for $390. Probably 90%.

It dates it to 1976.

Personally, I'd not go more then $350 to $375 on ANY K-Frame but that's just me. There are folks out there asking crazy prices for their K-Frames. A guy near Nashville is asking $700 on a 6" M66 which I think is totally unreasonable. I can remember "back in the day" being able to pick up a LEO trade in M19 or M66 for $225-$250 all day long. Revolver prices have just gotten crazy over the last few years and as long as there are those folks that are willing to pay the high price they'll just get worse.

In January I discovered a 4" 66-2 in probably 95% condition for sale with an asking price of $500. I offered $450 and the owner quickly took it. I'm real happy with the purchase.

Paid $449.00 plus tax and bg.fee for mine in December, which made it
about $500.00 out the door. mine is about 98% no box or papers.I am here in Tennessee North of Knoxville..

$500 seems the going rate for one in very good confition around here. But that is around here.

I paid $425 for my 66-2 with 4" barrel on Gunbroker a year ago. Seems to be about average for this revolver.

I know it's apples to oranges BUT Mark at Summit Gun Broker has Pre-Owned SIG Pro 2340's, 12+1 shot, 40cal for $325. Add in FFL fees and I can get one out the door for $375, no way I'd pay more then that for a 6 shot revolver. I firmly believe in getting the most Bang for my Buck.

Condition is always subjective, but a strong 98% 66-2 would bring $500 - $525 with a little patience in my area. However, a 95% gun would be around $425 - $450. The market for 98% to unfired condition guns includes the collectors, but when you get below that grade the market changes.

Sadly, the days of the sub $300 pre lock model 66's are a thing of the past.

Locally in NC, a 98% 4" 66-2 with no box or docs would bring $475 to $500. More with box and docs.

A shooter grade, IF you could find one, brings $425 to $450 - regularly - with no haggling either!

When folks are paying $600 + for ugly revolvers with laser etched markings, MIM parts and locks, you can't expect the price of good looking, truly classic revolvers, with roll marks and forged parts to remain static.

Its not the folks "paying too much for used revolvers.." driving the price up. Its the lack of quality and high prices of the current production revolvers. Regards 18DAI

18DAI has nailed it right on the head. And here is one more sad truth---
people like us are going to continue draining the pipe line DRY so that 66's and 19's and other desirable pre mim-pre lock K frames are seldom
going to be found on the market place (not for $500.00 anyway)

So I guess what I am sayin is---buy now or cry later.

I think my point is that if you don't buy em' at $500 dollars then after a while folks would be forced to come down to a reasonable price on their old revolvers. Heck, Bud's has M10's in right now, LEO Turn Ins for $269, can't beat that deal. There's just no reason to pay $500(or more) for a K-Frame. Of course if you've got more money then sense then knock yourself out,LOL.:D

To try and control the market by refusing to pay the $500 price tag is a microscopic viewpoint and impossible, especially in todays internet market. Somebody will pay the price.

Besides there are the gun show dealers that put over priced guns on thier table just to try and push the market up. You are fighting a loosing battle.

Having all the rounds availible to a person in one handgun promotes the spray and pray mentallity. I would be more afraid of the guy with JUST 6 shots in his revolver. He is apt to be a much better shot.

You can argue my comments but it would be futile!:)

Paid 475.00 OTD for a Excellent + condition 66-7 today, which is a good price in these parts...
Seems like GP100's Service Six's and S&W 65 & 66 sell top end in East TN...
The LGS sold a similar condition 65 earlier today for 500.00 OTD..
With a 10 % sells tax ...10.00 Background check thats fairly reasonable.....for a revolver that will hold its value...

357 Mag. Wheel guns rule !!!

For a well worn ..fixed sighted..blued 38 Spl...

Smiths hold there value....

and 475 ..for a M66 SS Excellent + condition 357 Mag.. sounds like a better deal...to me... ( I still lean toward Ruger S series ) but a Smith is a Smith as Ruger is a Ruger
