66 No Dash 2 1/2" ???

It's mine!! 66 ND 2 1/2" P&R and I love it. It will go nice with it's brothers, 66-1 4" & 66-4 4" and also "brother from another mother" 19 - 4 4".

Now I gotta decide how to fill the gaps in the dash #'s, 6", 3" or 2 1/2 " , another 4"?? Decisions, decisions.

While thats going on I'm also attempting to close a deal on a pre 10 to go with my 1944 Victory and 10 - 7.

I need lots of help and support in these trying times.

No. 1ST you need to learn how to post pictures! ;)

I have a small track on the 66 snubbie. Not enough for a trend but enough for the Average Price to be pretty solid. Better example would command higher than average pricing.

Smith & Wesson 66 Revolver 2.5 in Barrel
in .357 Magnum,.38 Special, Plus P. Blue Book of Gun Values (33rd Edition) indicates between $561 in 95% condition and $754 in 100% condition for this gun (10% premium added for the snubbie). I have 24 recorded prices for this model gun from $423 to $975 over a period of 1 Yrs 5 Mos ending April 28, 2013. The average price as of that date was $629. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for import location or engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $614.

Here's the pictures. Notice stainless ramp front with blued rear sights. What's the consensus of this setup?

Needs a good scrubbing, a little polishing, possibly Ahrends or some Magnas and then nothing but shooting.

Why does that front sight blade look like its got some kind of insert in it??

Great looking gun! I think you did well. More pics please, once you get her cleaned up with handles. :D

Thanks Ken, I will post more after a good workout today and then a good bath, probably wait on the magnas I ordered.

As for the front sight, I'm confused also, that's what I've been trying to get clarification on. Is it from factory, did Bubba put it in?? IDK. Blued rear and stainless front doesn't match. I will wait and hope the knowledgeable posters will have an answer. Regardless, I will be shooting and carrying. According to the experts opinions, I may leave as is, paint a reddish/orange or change inserts.

I'm not sure I can tell what I'm looking at from your picture, but it doesn't look right. Should be a red ramp. Can't tell if it's missing or has been painted or replaced.

Based on the serial number I suspect the gas ring in on the cylinder like the "dash 1's."

The front 'insert" was black when I got it, looked like someone took a magic marker to it, I really thought it would be a red ramp under the black, but, it wasn't. Looks to be a stainless insert. I will most likely paint it red. Just wanting opinions from the ones on here more knowledgeable than my self, which is probably 99% of posters,

At first this thing looked strange to me. The topstrap is shaped like a square butt frame and not straight like a round butt frame.
so, I went and looked at a couple more and low and behold, the early 2.5" 66's topstraps were shaped like that, for a very brief time.

The 2.5" Model 66 was introduced at 6K6 something and has that SB looking topstrap but from 6K8 on, they all had the straight topstrap, until they went to the new rear sight style in 1994.
Almost all the 6K6 Model 66's I have seen shipped in Oct, 1975 with the 6K8's being 1976 so it didn't take them long to change their mind.

Thanks for the pics! They made me notice something I hadn't paid attention to before!

As far as the stainless insert. Is it metal?
The 2.5" did come with the black rear sight and red ramp front sight since the beginning. Being it's 38 years old, it wouldn't surprise me if it has been replaced but since it is plastic molded into the cut out, it would surprise me if the insert was metal.

Yes, the insert is definitely metal.

Here's my 66-5, CDL6190 (1999). Red insert of the ramp, white outline on the rear.

I recently picked up a 66 with original grips , no box or papers for $550 at a local shop. $500 to $600 seems to be the going rate around .

As promised, before and after. 66 ND 2 1/2" after a good cleaning, range time and another good cleaning and a little TLC.

I am very pleased, shoots great and now looks a lot better.
