I just put on layaway a 66 2 1/2 inch. mint looks like it was fired once. then put in the safe. the gun shop told me they took it in fom a man who was real sick. i guess he brought in his whole collection. this was the last one left. it is pinned and ressed. stainless is in perfect condition looks better than a brand new one that was in the store. i purchased it for 499 i think that was a fair price. i can not wait to get it i will pick it up in 2 weeks. the serial # is 77k is there anything i need to know about this gun any type of info would be great. it also came with the box.

The serial number 77K series was made in 1980 and should be pinned and recessed.

Just curious, what was the price on the new one you mentioned was in the store? I love the 66. Being a pre-lock and out of production these should be pretty hard to find. I think you did well.

the new one was not a 66. just all the new smiths in general

It is probably a 66-1. My 2.5" 66-1 is my everyday carry gun. I use a Don Hume JIT holster, standard grips and a Tyler T-Grip adapter.

I am sure you will love it.
