whats there to say, you bought one of the best .357mag revolvers made by S&W and a spooky acurete gun at that.
what you got was one of the rarer ones, one with ajustible front and rear sight.
shoot and enjoy, once you have shot it, you won't want to ever get ride of it.

Beautiful gun Peter. As was said, one of the best Smiths ever.

I have a 686-2 in stainless with the 4" barrel and absolutely love it. Great accuracy and it fits my small hands better than any other gun I have. I have a pistol scope mounted on it and use mainly for hunting.
Great gun, enjoy it.

Thank´s so much.

Is it possible to identify the gun?

Peter

Thank´s.

My questions are:

Is this a normal S&W or an Special Edition?
Practical Champion or not.
I pay 200€ for it. Is it ok?
The sn isn´t in the book.
Is my gun one of the last in 1987?

Thank you all for help

It´s a super forum and also good for learning english:p

Can't answer your questions, but you have a keeper there. Shot a friends 586 with the adjustable front sight years ago and it was scary accurate. My 4" 586 and 3" CS-1 are also extremely accurate.

Congrats on a rather rare and beautiful revolver!

Don't sell it!!!

Thank´s a lot.
It´s a great forum. What´s the best ammunition of .38 special for the 686?

Peter

Hi Peter,

200 Euros is about $300 US. I think you got a fantastic deal. Up here in Canada I would expect to pay anywhere from $500 US to $700 US.

Enjoy it.

I didn´t have a manuel for my 686 and no manual for the adjustable front sight. Is their anywehre, how can send me the manuels per pn?

Thank´s for your help

Sorry for the tardy reply, Peter. I would use .38 special 148 gr. wadcutters for target shooting. See what brands are available to you locally and try a box.

To get a manual I would contact Smith & Wesson with the contact information posted on their website.

Is recall an issue??

Hello All!!

Should the OP be concerned about the recall on S&W 586/686 no dash, -1, -2??

The recall only affects those who shoot .357 Mag ammunition; .38 Spec. ammo does not cause the cylinder lock-up issue the recall was designed to correct.

I recently sent in my 586 no dash to get the modification-- from call to S&W, to get the free shipping label, to date of receipt of my modified 586, 12 day turnaround.

Stay well!!
