686-3?

Today's update...Just got off the phone with the owner. He tossed the box when new,gun has been in the safe since. He and his wife go to the range yearly to fire a few shots. He put the rubber grips on for her to tame the recoil, not sure where the originals are.Picking her up tomorrow :D.If I decide not to keep it for some reason i'll offer it up here at a fair price.Only reason why he's selling is to buy a carry gun, prob. a 642.

You won't regret it, but he will

Just picked her up,can't stop smiling!!!Gun is far better than the crappy pics showed! Was bought new in "91,has 200 rounds exactly through it.Trigger is UNREAL,cannot see how it could get any better!!!He offered to drop 50- since he tossed the box and couldn't find the original grips, who was I to argue? :D

Does that barrel have a slight overclock, or, is it just the angle of the photo? The ribbing on the barrel is slightly left of the ribbing on the top of the frame.

Could be why the rear sight is adjusted so far left. Not that either would be a big deal to me as long as it shot accurately, but it seems to be a big issue to some. $525 would be a fair price on that gun without the original grips, around here.

Barrel is off just the smallest amount, but nowhere near like the newer ones I've seen!Stopped buy a local pawn shop today, they had used pre lock 686 FS.It looked "WELL" used for 799-.I asked the guy if I could inspect it,he said it was SOLD just waiting for the guy to pay it off! Also said there was a list of people in line for it....I feel like mine was a homerun.

I made a big mistake yesterday. I was in my local gun shop looking for a new 4 inch 586. They didn't have one but what they did have was a 4 inch 686-1 that appeared to be in excellent shape, no box though. They wanted $499.
I went back home to think about it. Two hours later I decided that's the gun I wanted. Well, I was too late...it was gone. Live and learn...

Good deal for sure, better luck on the next one! Can't believe how "in demand" these guns are...

Again, it would matter not to me either as long as the gun shot well. I think the issue of canted barrels has been escalated by internet hype and folks actually looking for it. I'm amazed at the amount of older guns, both S&W and Ruger that have barrels slightly canted, but all you ever hear folks whine about is the new production models. It also is surprising, the amount of folks that have owned and shot their revolver for years, now that they look, see their barrel is canted.

I did some research on the canting and found the same, seems to be common even on the older guns. Some of the newer ones I've seen in pics are so bad i'm not quite sure how they were shipped?

No yelling here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT IS EVERYONE YELLING ABOUT?!?!?!?!

I would take that in a heartbeat for the price. Put some nice looking wood grips on it and you could make an easy $200

I've witnessed 1 prelock 686 on Wisconsin Armslist in the last few months and it was a 6" -3 for $800 and it sold in a couple hours
IF THE YELLING QUESTION IS IN RESPONSE TO USING ALL CAPS IN MY CASE IT IS FOR THE EASE OF READING DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND THE MEANS TO SELECT LARGER TEXT SIZE. I KNOW THE OPTION BAR TO DO SO IS AT THE TOP BUT EVERY EFFORT TO SELECT A LARGER SIZE OR DIFFERENT STYLE TEXT HAS EVADED ME. I SEE OTHER FOLKS UTILIZING THIS OPTION SO ENLIGHTEN ME HOW TO EMPLOY IT SO THERE WON'T BE ANY CONFUSION ON THIS SUBJECT. OH AND DON'T BE SO SENSITIVE!

I'm not sure what you wrote. I skip past any all caps posts and I'm sure many other members do the same
