Picked up this 686-6 , 7 shot , 2.5" the other day sporting yellow hogue grips. The guy I bought it from told me it came from the factory this way as part of a bear survival kit package. I just have the gun , no extras. What can you guy's tell me about this gun? Does it have any additional value because of the grips? I had never seen one like this before.

Interesting. I learn something new every time I visit this Forum. I knew S&W had made the survival/bear kits in .500, .460 and 44 Magnum, but I did not know they made up such a package in .357 Magnum.

I would check with the factory by calling and giving them the serial number to see if it had an SKU indicating part of such a package.

Don't overlook the possibility that someone switched out the grips from an X Frame package gun, as the X Frame shares the same grip dimensions as the K and L Frames.

Well I know the grips were available for some time by themselves. I know this as I bought 2 pair some years ago.

I like the looks of it. Yellow grips always sound odd but this one turned out ok. At least it's not a blued gun.

Brownbing, I really like your gun! it's a real beauty. However, I would recommend you send a PM to kennyb and start negotiations.
