I have a 686-5 with hi-viz front sight and v-notch rear.I want to change to a front black ramp and standard rear. What number can I call at Smith to get info on what I need to order?I intend on keeping both sight sets for different match types.

The # is 1-800-334-0852 Ext 7 for customer service. Brownell's probably has it - they have the .050" cup pin punch, too (The front sight is pinned.). You'll need a drill bit and pin vise, too. That front sight is probably ~.250". You'll need a new sight windage screw and nut, too - they are generally not serviceable upon removal (rear sight). Brownells, besides aftermarket, also has S&W parts - if you don't have their catalog, and you aren't going to FOP Range today (There is one in the 'Liar's Lounge' there.), go to their website. My h-l 5" 686+ is fun with it's original HiViz & V-notch.

Thank you John !! I guess I have shot too much bulls eye with patridge type sights and that too large orange dot just does not get it any more!I do have a Brownells catalog and I will give it a look today. How have I missed you at the range lately?

You could just trade guns with me:D. I have been trying to get the front sight off my 686 for almost a year so I could install a HiViz front sight. I traded my regular rear sight to a guy with a 520, so I already have the V-notch rear. I'm gonna have to break down and take mine to a gunsmith. If you change your rear sight to a regular square notch, I'd suggest that you get a whole rear sight assembly. That way the sights can be changed out easily and quickly.

Thanks epj !! yeah I want two entire sets of sights so I can change them if and when I like.I even saw one gun that had a front Hi-Viz and a rear square notch and I actually liked that better than the v-notch rear.
