6906 Grips

Does/did anyone ever make rubber grips for the 6906 sized frame that were just side panels? Seems the Hogue and the Pachmayr are both finger groove/wrap around type and the finger grooves make the grips too fat for my taste. The factory plastics are too thin. I am looking for the goldilocks grips. I want to carry my 6906 and my 4013TSW, but I just don't feel comfortable with the grips on either one. The 3913 and 1013 single stack with the Hogue grips are perfect. Makes no sense to me why Hogue made the double stack grips bigger than the single stack grips.

Also, it seems Hogue only made the 6906 grip as wraparound/finger groove and all of the other 3rd gen grips are panel grips.

Try sliding a piece of a bicycle inner tube over the grips.

Uncle Mikes once made some side panel type grips for the 5906 sized frames, but I don't know of any for the 6906 frames. Someone else may come along that does.

Yeah, I don't think so. I typically am about function, but sometimes aesthetics do come into play.

Google "rubber gun sleeve" images and see if any of those are to your liking. Hogue, Pachmayr, and others make them, both with and without the finger grooves. They're pretty thin and shouldn't add much bulk. I don't believe any are 6906-specific, but no doubt one or more could work just fine and not look too out-of-place.

This pm, choosing whether to tuck my 6906 or 4516 into my belt for a trip out, noticed the length of the Hogues on both was the same.

In terms of width, the 6906 mag is wider than the 4516, which has the aforementioned panels instead of wrap-arounds.

If I had an extra $40, I'd get the grips for the 45 and see if there's enough "extra" rubber to shave away so it fits on the (wider) 6906. There looks to be enough, but you'd need an X-acto knife and Dremel to really find out. (The wrap-arounds for me on the 6906 fit my hands just fine, so I won't be carrying out that experiment. Nor will I be plunking down $80 or $100 for wood grips for that gun.)

The 5906 grip would likely be a better candidate. May see how it fits. Good idea.

I am looking to put a sleeve on one of my 6906's just to try it out. I always thought the finger grooves made the grip too large for my hands.

I have used the slip on finger groove grips before and ultimately didn't like them.

I think it was more of a matter of the number of guns made. Lots and lots of 39xx and 59xx guns made, fare fewer 69xx guns.

I'm a big fan of the 69xx guns, but I don't know of any agency that issued them to large numbers of officers. Maybe detectives and smaller stature officers, but most officers likely got a 59xx.

But why would the number of guns made make a difference? Hogue made grips for the 6906. They made them for all the other 3rd Gen’s, regardless of caliber. For some reason only the double stack compact guns got those horrible wrap around grips. If they were going to make them for the 6906 then it wouldn’t have been any more effort to just make panels for them like they did the 5906 and 3913.

My 6946 is an evaluation gun that Suffolk County, NY PD considered as a duty gun. They went with the Glock 19, another compact gun. Who knows the rationale? Maybe one gun for uniform and detectives?

But they made the tooling to make the wrap arounds. And I wouldn’t say the double stack compacts had limited appeal. They made tons of them.

What’s the obstacle? Cut rubber panels to fit the sides of the grip. They did it for all the other models.
