Just picked up one at the S&W forum for $800. no dash CBW-9xxx
There was a 696 no-dash at the gunshow last weekend in Atlanta and the gent selling it had $1,595 on the tag and musta wanted to sell it, as he had it "marked-down" to $1,295......
Should I be happy with a "-1" or should I hunt for a no-dash? Has anyone actually had issues with the MIM stuff?
Fantasy or not, that is what was on the price-tag. It was still sitting there on Sunday at the end of the day.....
Pictures are needed gentlemen.

It's odd that I stumbled across this old thread today.
I had forgotten all about the 696 until going through a box of old gun mags as part of the moving process I came across one with a cover story on it from when it was introduced.
I kept the mag because I'm kicking around the idea of getting a .44 Special since my pa-in-law bought himself a Charter Arms late last year.
Sadly I won't be getting a 696 any time soon since things haven't worked out for me over here in SC and I'm going back to AL for less money (but at least I get to keep a home I love) so there will be no new guns for me for awhile while we live on a tighter budget.
Although I have kicked around the idea of maybe trading my CZ 75B for one. I figure I might regret that though.
I have shot the Charter Arms in 44 Spl. I have the 696. No comparison between the two - except price. Beg, borrow, steal ( well don't go that far)the money and get the 696. The gun is built like a tank.
Slightly off topic, but what grips are those on the Model 642-2 in the photo?
