my brother has a new 929 that groups around 4 inches at 50 feet. He is not a happy camper. S&W is sending an envelope to send it back for rework.

So what's up with the PC? I thought that it was supposed to be the best.

Mine seems to shoot pretty good.I agree with you as for the price paid they should leave the factory in match ready/mint condition.Mine has a small scratch on the right blast shield and this gun came out of the vault-was not a display gun. I am still debating on sending it back.

It was shot off of a rest. He is also a very good shot. He can get a raggedy hole at 25 yards off hand from his 610.

He uses slower owners in his reloads - Blue Dot, Unique, etc. might be a factor?

He has a C-More railway sight mounted on the gun. Again, not sure if that is a factor. I shoot a 625 with an STS on it and get sub-2" groups at 50 yards off of a rest so I doubt it but ???.

A raggedy hole at 25 yards offhand? That I would like to see.

No bull. He practices with the scope sighting targets with diamonds on each corner and the larger diamond in the middle. He shoots at the corner diamonds when he is practicing.

A better pistoleer than I.... I am pretty satisfied with 2-4" groups at 50' with open sights.

But I agree with above suggestions to try different ammo/powder combos to tighten it up. Most of my revolvers have a recipe they hate, and one they love.

Is he shooting cast or jacketed bullets? My 986 does not like cast bullets. When I finally get all the lead scrubbed out of the barrel, I've got some Berry's & Rannier plated bullets I'm going to try.

He is shooting Ranier bullets. My guess is that it is a matter of finding that bullet/powder sweet spot. Sometimes it takes awhile.

My experience with Raniers is that while they are good inexpensive plinkers, they have much to be desired when it comes to precision accuracy. I'm surprised that S&W didn't ask him to shoot something different before sending him a label. I'm also surprised that since your brother is such a great shot, that he never considered it.
