9mm for deer ?????

…I just didn't care much for your argument.

I probably structured it very poorly; I did not mean to cast aspersions on anyone in the profession.

The point I was trying to make is that the selection criteria for a firearm or cartridge for on-body carry by law enforcement officers versus those for a firearm or cartridge for hunting mid-sized game are not the same.

I have been Whitetail Deer hunting for 40 years and what I have learned is if you want a Deer use an adequate rifle caliber to do the job. You want the Deer down and dead, not chasing it for miles. My Son and I use .30/06 and have never had to chase a Deer. Early on i used a .223 and struggled through snow and brush for a couple of hours until I found the smallish Buck still alive. I felt like a complete jerk and still do. You owe it to the animal to make a clean kill. They are not alive to provide us with "stunts". I know a .44 Magnum is adequate and maybe a .357 if your close and good enough. But a 9MM? No.

The 9M is inadequate for deer.

Almost every LEO carries a 9M.

Am I the only person who questions that? Seems like a complete contradiction to me.

The difference is the expected distance of shooting. 9mm has proven to fit a PD needs at 5-15 yards. Deer can be expected to be taken at a larger distance.

As to head shots, if you can't put it in the earhole, it's a no go.

Typical TV/Online Personality "Outdoorsman", (and I use that term lightly, especially the man part) filming all sorts of stunts for attention because they aren't interesting/informative enough to maintain a steady viewership otherwise.

I've grown to despise these phonies with a passion over the years for their antics, attitude, and characteristic disrespect for nature.

I briefly followed a number of these types online, until I got fed up with their unapologetic disingenuinity. I understand/accept that they need to put on a show, but not when they encourage people to do idiotic, dangerous, and unethical things on camera that the lowest common denominator will certainly emulate.

The worst offenders in my opinion are the phony, wannabe Survivalists on YouTube who film in their backyard, local park, or at least somewhere near to civilization because you can always make out at least some distant sound in the background which tips you off that they aren't actually in the wilderness.

EXACTLY THIS!!!!!! Wish I could like this post more than once. You absolutely owe it to the deer!!!

I had to quit watching almost all the hunting shows years ago.
The " excessive jubilation " high fives and jumping around after killing a deer or elk at long range turned my stomach.
You would think they had won a 100 million dollar lottery.
No showing of respect at all for the animal whose life they just took.
I am NOT an anti-hunter, BTW. Have downed quite a few critters myself over my 68 years on this earth.

I agree with all of this. Another thing that aggravates me( and I've emailed the shows about it) is when they have a kid in a stand or blind and he's bored out of his mind. He could care less about being there. Often times he's not even physically big enough to properly handle the gun. He shoots a buck of a lifetime and doesn't seem to care. He's only there because they needed a buck tag to film a show and jr had one. This scenario is maddening to me.

how did all of those deer get killed with rounds like the 25/20 and 32/20 before we discovered deer can't be killed with rounds that weak...

A while back now, there was a report of a Brit SAS Trooper taking down a terrorist at 100 yards with a HiPower.
But I can shoot my 357s better than I can my Spray and Pray Wonder 9s.
Having shot Hunter silhouette with my Model 27, that my choice.

In the Dark Ages I could regularly 'ring' 200 meter IHMSA rams with my 5906 and 124 grain LRN, 4.5 grains of Unique. That gun would SHOOT!

Hitting metal and killing animals are quite different endeavors; I shot a fawn hung in a fence 3 times in the head with the same pistol and 147 grain HydraShocks from a few feet - she kept jerking and bleating, so I killed her quickly with my 12 gauge.

The way I look at is "The longer you have to look for a wounded deer, the less time you have to drink beer"

I have no desire to hunt deer with a 9mm pistol, no matter the distance. I might use a 9mm carbine with heavy bullets on Texas sized deer (about the size of my dog) but wouldn't consider it on Iowa size deer. I stand 6' 1" and came face to face with one once. He looked down at me as he passed 3 feet in front of me. He knew it wasn't hunting season and had no fear of me.
